curry powder sucks. i bought it and was so disappointed. i already have my own cloves, garlic, ginger, cayenne, turmeric, etc., and i make it a billion times better anyway.

I can't do it from scratch......but this stuff helps me fake it quite nicely: http://www.pataks.ca
Indian has to be the only type of cuisine I've considered taking a class for......butter or tandori chicken, nan, vegetable pakora's,papadum....nothing beats an indian buffet......I love it!

Many years ago I travelled from Delhi to Agra to Varanasi to Darjeeling via trains, it was so disturbingly dirty and poor but also very magical/mystical with some of the richest cast of characters I have ever met, so very friendly.....we were travelling as backpackers so we slept rough and ate rough....I got dysentery just before heading into Nepal and it effectively ended my trek.....in many parts of the country they fertilize there vegetable crops with human waste....their systems are accustomed to it but as a North American, my doc says that's what got me.....I was sick/not well for many months.....don't think I'd ever go back, unless it was to the resort areas near Kerala which I’ve heard folks rave about.....Taj Mahal!!!!! you've just made up my mind for me. Eventually I'll get there but there are so many other places I'd rather see first.

my brother and roommate went for 6 weeks last feb-march

they loved it

they also hit up sri lanka

they loved the people, love the partying in sri lanka, went on a camel tour in the desert for 4 days, and took alot of dope pictures and mailed back alot of cheap awesome linens and bedding type stuff for my mom and me.

they said most places they went they were the only white people too, and thats not even off the beaten path, just in general

I especially liked their stories of the "sidewalk dentists"

sidewalk dentist cracks me up

when i was in goa these guys sneaked up on me and wanted to clean my ears from wax with weird wire-things just like that, obviously for som cash

sure man just put the rusty wire-hanger in my brains ive been dying to have my filthy ears cleaned by an educated professional for some time now

still you must praise their creativity
