its the day that captain cook came to australia with a bunch of convcits in 1788 and settled here. its not the day australia was discovered which i think would make a better australia day. it has the lovely nickname of invasion day, due to what happened when the white people settled here.

everyone celebrates it differently, perth gets fireworks so thats what the day revolves around for a lot of people. getting pissed and sunburnt on the foreshore.

i don't know what i'm going to do, is fucking hot in my apartment, like 40 degrees i think, ew. i wanna see the big badda boom but my friends dont love fireworks like me :(

edit: that sounded really negative, i love australia day. no obligation to catch up with family or anything, all you have to do is drink. i'm listening to the hottest 100 :)

when i was in aus last summer, people walked around wrapped in australian flags and showed off their aussie flag tattoos etc
here, on waitangi day, you will never see such behaviour.
people are more likely to go listen to reggae in celebration of bob marley's bday (ok, not really...but some do)
