I have to re-send out a handful of my reference letters because the ones my professors e-mailed me aren't "official enough." It's not my fault my teachers only sent them digitally. Now I have to find them all and print their shit and get it signed and...

I mean really, they have the contact information - couldn't they just call and confirm?

yeah that's pretty lame. how hard is it going to be to round those signatures up?

your professors emailed you the reference letters? when i got mine, i signed a thing waiving my right to read the letters, the professors just sent them out on their own. it was optional, but i read somewhere that some schools don't take the letters as seriously if you don't sign the thing

maybe it's just a law school thing

I had my references write the letters themselves, seal them, and then sign the back of the envelope (over the crease) and put a piece of tape over the signature so the schools could see it was "official." I sent their reference letters in myself, which seems to be okay.

I do remember them saying official letters only, no copies accepted. They could call and confirm, but I think most of the time they're too swamped to go do stuff like that.

Wanna hear something scary? My friend knows people who used to work for BU's admissions office. Wanna know the first people that decide on your application? STUDENTS. They're the ones that do the initial screening to make sure if there are any glaring errors, and then pass them on. That's pretty frightening to me. I don't trust students to do that kinda thing.
