View Full Version : pink floyd's interstellar overdrive sounds a lot like in-a-gadda-da-vida
there's a good beginning
then there's the middle
then it ends well
i dunno, i've been listening to in-a-gadda-da-vida a lot lately for some reason and it just occurred to me. what do you think?

old people's music is usually the best music
i prefer the '66 version of overdrive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iA7wdO00VI). it's much more coherent, and enjoyable, with better barrett riff action. it was obviously a huge influence on sonic youth, and arguably the first blatant punk rock riff.

the riff rules, pity about the rest of the song.

Bob is listening to Old people's music. (y)
Me too, I just bought Blind Faith's c.d. yesterday.

i agree
wait, which song are you talking about?
well, it doesn't matter actually, i agree
actually i kind of like in-a-gadda-da-vida, i've been listening to it while i study, and it's pretty helpful. the drums are a nice background noise
i tried it with interstellar overdrive though, and it was too distracting. towards the end i was writing backwards for some reason

Interstellar Overdrive. It could be an awesome song if it had some structure. but it doesn't. Pink Floyd are mad overrated anyway. maybe I don't take enough drugs.

Overrated just means that there's too many damn people with time on their hands to sit and write about them. Fuck em.
Seriously, what the hell does "overrated" in the music world mean anyway?

no, pink floyd wrote brilliant songs, released outstanding albums, are solid musicians, were true innovators, were years ahead of their peers, and deserve all the credit and accolades that have been thrown their way. i personally rate them on an equal footing with all the other greats, ie the beatles, zeppelin, stones, humble pie, hendrix, vu, the who, jeff beck group et al. actually, the beatles were pretty much in a league of their own. and lacking structure is the entire point of freeform improvisational tracks that weren't singles.

pink floyd deserves mad respect. anyone who can't see that needs to get their head checked.

eh, i guess i just don't like freeform improvisational tracks. the bulk of interstellar overdrive reminds me of the boring parts of most mars volta songs. or i guess it would be the other way around...
i don't know, i'm not very sophisticated, but i know what i likes, and if i ain't fer it i'm aginnit
