I just sat through it. 12 of the songs I still really enjoyed. Nice and loud, it was a jam in my study. And I enjoyed Triple Trouble a fair old bit. I always rag on that song, but it sounded really good. Admins may delete this thread, or they may show me how much they like me. Or maybe the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Anyway, it could be the last time they make hip-hop, so I thought I'd listen to it.

You could of easily spent that time enjoying yourself instead of wondering why you were enjoying yourself if you only had listened to Paul's Boutique.

I'm sure it won't be the last time they make Hip Hop....I'll call it right now...the new album will be 75% instrumental, 25% rhymes...

Yep...co-signin KP.
I rocked TT5B this afternoon myself. The tracks sound clean and most excellent. My favorite track is Rhyme The Rhyme Well. I wish they would play it live.
Another great track is Brouhaha. With my leg behind my head.

Thing is, I enjoy listening to Paul's Boutique all the time, like anybody else. I was just saying, people should listen to TT5B now. For something to talk about.

Hey I like the album, so what? Not everybody has to like or not like the same thing. This isn't like when we were little kids and you had to like the same stuff as everyone else or you weren't cool. Thats just lame.
(y)
Stop dissing TT5B, people. I mean seriously what did your last cd sound like anyway?

With the new album coming soon I've been listening to it more as well...It's a good album, I think the main gripes come from the 6 years in between albums. Also they changed up the style of beats they usually used and when more ProToolsish. People had high expectations and it was hard to meet them, but if you listen to the album and jugde it by itself, you'll find a few gems that will stand the test of time.

I mean, I get exactly what some people are talking about. Sometimes it does sound a little flat. Particularly for a Beastie Boys album. I dunno. I just listened to it and liked it. Sorry about the shit thread y'all.
edit: I didn't mean to say listen to it now instead of other ones. I meant listen to it ASAP and talk about it while it's fresh in your brain.

It's just a prediction I happen to think is right...
I'm going mostly off what Money Mark said about it being "Check Your Head Part 2". Plus, they've been seen rhyming in the studio if memory serves...

I'm going to come out and say it: Ch-Check It Out is one of the best singles they ever released, it deserved all the success it got even if most of it was "OMG THE BEASTIE BOYS ARE BACK!" hype.

Personally, I thought it was one of their weakest singles. But it did grow on me. A better start off single for a hip hop themed album would have been "Rhyme The Rhyme Well".

At first I did the typical thing I do with albums and ignore the lead single in my choosing of my favourite song on an album (I usually kind of zone out when songs I've heard a million times come on), but I think in retrospect Ch-Check It Out is my fav on TT5B. Right Right Now Now is amazing too, as are Shazam and Hey Fuck You. I like every song though, because how could I not?

I had never thought (or was allowed by my family) to listen to a CD Player whilst showering...but when I moved out my girlfriend kind of introduced me to the idea. I can't shower without the music now :D

Damn, I find Rhyme the rhyme well a bit spooky. This song makes me sad, You really think it would be a good start for an album?
I love the little skratchn in All lifestyles [is it 'dance sucka'?].
It's funny 'cause I recently also listened to TT5B for a few times. It must've been the hidden under my conscience thought 'Enjoy it while it's fresh in your brain'.(y)

Wow...spooky and sad?!?
I think RTRW has a lot of passion. It almost reminds of a 2004 version of Pass the Mic.

Looking back, I think To The 5 Boroughs' legacy will be that it introduced the Beastie Boys to a whole new generation of fans, similar to what Check Your Head did. I'm including myself in this statement.

Is it because You particularly have been into BB ever since or is it a general trend? Hmm. So this would mean LTI, CYH, HN (?) and TT5B were THE albums? Interesting!

It's something I've noticed. The kids who liked "Ch-Check It Out" got To The 5 Boroughs which would lead to them getting Check Your Head, then Paul's Boutique, then Licensed To Ill, and etc.
You have no idea how many videos there are on YouTube of kids 16, 17, 18 lip synching or making videos set to tracks from TT5B. That and Licensed To Ill seem to be the favourites for people my age.

Any time you say tossing and shower in the same quote, you shouldnt be listening to the B-Boys.

I think they have their work cut out to do another album as good as TT5B. So no doubt they'll just do something completely different, which is pretty much the Beastie trend unless you're in CYH/IC land where the creativity deserved two albums in quick succession.
I gave TT5B another spin yesterday. To me those reviews - e.g. the NME one or the Rolling Stone one - really got it, so I don't need to bang on. But it is beautifully stripped down. There are just so many perfect, simple rhymes and beats moments on the album, but listen closely and there's still lots going on... Production-wise I think it's ace. Doing their own thing... no other Hip Hop records of recent times sound like that. It's what the Beastie Boys do, not some Timbaland/Neptune beats that are paid for and will just put them in with every other mainstream act.
I trust the new album will be great, as it's a 6 out of 6 consistency run so far. Roll on record number 7...
edit: however, if Mario C came back into the fold I wouldn't mind.

I agree! I've alwais done it, I think it has some important power to me
So I gave it a spin today too. After listening to this album so much I have to say that I really like it and appreciate it, even I had to call it the weakest Beasties album. There are some songs that you can call a real BBoys classics, and the ones that are put together very badly.... someone on this board before compared the whole TT5B to extended version of B-Boy Boullabaise. Well, I have to say I agree with it, since all the tracks are short and raw.
But anyway, this is NOT a bad album. It just lacks this "something" that made every Beasties album so unique and versatile. (anyway, I don't know why it took them so long to finish. They could write those rhymes and make these beats and record the whole album in two months or less). it is very raw and pessimistic in a way, since Beasties wanted to comment the current situation in the world. But we have to accept it, because no one will fight for the right to party till the end of his life.
Wow, that's a hefty bag of bullshit. Sorry.
