the Fall (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=50465&highlight=Fall)
The Replacements' Answering Machine was a theme tune for our "gang" in the 80's

The Replacements -- I'd start with Let it Be. Maybe Tim. Let it Be.

Anyway, start there, or if you need their best pop-sheen album, get Pleased to Meet Me.

Hex Enduction Hour by The Fall is quite deranged. Maybe not the best place to start with the Fall. But it is wonderful.

Replacements, no contest. Get all the CDs, start with Let it Be or Pleased to Meet Me.

The relatively small amount of The Fall I've heard ("50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong," "Live At The Witch Trials") is good, but those guys are not exactly known for consistency and they've released A LOT of stuff over the years.

The Replacements are flat-out awesome to me. If you just want an overview of all they've done to see what you like, try the Rhino comp "Don't You Know Who I Think I Was?" (it's also worthwhile for two bonus tracks with a reunited Replacements... and they sound good!). After that, do "Let It Be" and "Tim" and such.

I don't think the question was posed as a 'contest'. He should probably have used 'and' instead of 'or. It would be a pointless one anyway as they are both so fab.

Let it Be I would concur is a good intro to the Mats. For the Fall, it's far more difficult as they only have about 15 million records over the past quarter century to choose from.

I prefer "This Nations Saving Grace" by the Fall over "Let It Be" by the Replacements, if that means anything.
