BRMC (http://www.blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com/)'s new one to be delivered (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003538730) on May the 1st, it's gonna be called Baby 81 (after the tsunami baby).
Their drummer was there all the time now, he went AWOL in 2005 and they recorded the whole of Howl without him. Luckily he came back to his senses so they could tour as a threesome again.
According to Robert (the bass player) "we’ve kept the direction and sound a bit of a secret on this album, but it’s basically what we do best; three guys playing rock’n’roll better than any other band can." :D

And this means they're gonna be touring this summer (and most of 2007) ... as are Beastie Boys.... man this summer is gonna be really expensive for me... what a great career choice to become a gardener...

Just got turned on to this band. What is the prevailing opinion around here. I only have Baby 81 (a friend ripped it for me), what other albums should I get?

i find them to be really hit and miss. their self-titled debut was good, with the stand out being awake. their third album howl was really good as well, displaying a lot of growth, depth and maturity in their songwriting and musical arrangements. but then baby 81 was a big pile of steaming uninspired mediocrity and blandness.

i don't listen to them too much but they're okay, however there are a lot of better bands in the prog/psych genre.

Their first album was probably their overall best work.

I thought Howl was pretty awesome in its own way too, though. Completely different from everything else they've done.

I put them into Pandora and stuff like The Black Keys and Village Green (?) is coming up.

A couple of songs from Howl came up and I'm liking the blues revival stuff.

Are they really prog/psych?

What other related bands would you recommend? Sonic Youth? Jesus and Mary Chain?

peter hayes used to be in the jonestown massacre and brmc grew out of the west coast/'frisco psych scene. their first album is a reflection of this. no, not the youth or the mary chain. they've definitely had their moments though.

i can recommend loads, and even post or pm you tunes if interested.

outrageous cherry
cloudland canyon
asteroid #4
pontiak
brian jonestown massacre
psychic ills
the black angels
the church
the astral kaleidoscope
the laurels
the quarter after
dead confederate
bardo pond
dungen
the dollyrocker movement
darker my love
black mountain
dead meadow
the lovetones

and then of course the classics like spacemen 3, david gilmour/floyd, hawkwind, spiritualized, pre-urban hymns/sell-out verve, my bloody valentine, lush, shoegaze et al.

Wow, yeah give me some song/album titles to start with.

I'll plug some of these bands into grooveshark and see what happens.

cloudland canyon - lie in light
verve - a storm in heaven, no come down, the verve ep
brian jonestown massacre - we are the radio, and this is our music, their satanic majesties second request
spiritualized - lazer guided melodies

My personal favourite is Take Them On, On Your Own. Some really good stuff on there - Generation is a classic.

Has anybody downloaded The Effects of 333? Any good?

333 is really badass, probably their most daring, interesting and creative album to date. an instrumental which sounds like a really dark brian eno album, yet with pleasant pastoral moments like a twisted state.

Wow! Hadn't checked Other Music for ages and here you are duscussing one of my favourite bands!
Their first one is a total epic! Hadn't listened to it for ages, but just last week decided to have a glas at Debaser's wonderful outdoor bar.
Got myself a place in the onion sofa and they were playing the complete BRMC! Man, it sounded good!
I've hardly listened to 333, maybe I got an overdose of them after seeing them 20 times.
Or maybe there's been too much other things keeping my mind busy....
Or maybe I like their rockier numbers better than psychedelic. Sometimes I still think them as copy cats when it comes to psychedelia.
I gotta play it now, as I've forgotten what its's like... :o
There's quite a few bands that I haven't heard of that saz mentioned, guess I gotta check them out.

b-grrrlie, what is your opinion of Baby 81? It's the only one I have at the moment and people around here don't seem to think much of it. I'll definitely be getting BRMC and Howl.
