Got a weird notice on our doors Tuesday: that Thursday, between 11:30 and 1:30, they were conducting an apartment inspection. VERY IMPORTANT that the place be clean, no debris on the floor, counters cleared off...

Counters cleared off? That's weird. Just the sink counter, or the cupboards as well, or what? I mean, my counter's where my rice cooker is, my dish drainer, the Foreman grill, the blender... where am I going to put them?

Well, I stuck them on the cupboard counter. Just seems weird.

They're trying to sell the place, I know, but if it's SO IMPORTANT that the apartments be clean, maybe they should give more than (effectively) 36 hours' notice, or at least have the inspection on a Monday so people possibly have a weekend to work on things. Yeesh.

Good thing I'd already done a bunch of cleaning for when my friends came a couple weekends ago, or this would've been really stressful. As is, I'm not nuts about people being in my place when I'm not there. (n)

You should just quit being a slob and keep your apartment clean all the time...then you wouldn't have to worry

Pfft.

I'm an artist and a bachelor. How prissy-tidy do you think it's going to be?

I don't think they are expecting you to move your small appliances. Just make sure there's no week old congealed pizza stuck to the counter :D .

When i was a student our landlord used to make surprise visits to check the flat. It was pure luck that the flat was clean whenever he decided to drop by.

Rice cooker? George Foreman grill? Blender? You ain't no bachelor. I have a chair, a table, a bed, and a toaster. That's how you batch it up. It's impossible to be messy when you don't own any possessions.

Yeah. But I get a note like that, and I immediately assume "fastidious." (sp?)

Now THAT'S bullshit. Here, they have to give 24 hour (maybe 48?) notice unless there's an emergency.

That's the point where the mirror should've brought up Snow White.

So you have a little roach motel set up in the kitchen now?

No need for that. There are two air fresheners struggling heroically with the lingering cigarette odor.

You're not allowed to smoke in your own apartment?

No, I am. I just think it's unpleasant for non-smokers to have to smell that when they come over.

Usually I have this product called Air Magnet, which is fantastic, because it absorbs the odor rather than tries to perfume it. Great stuff -- a few hours and the air smells really clean. But it's hard to find.

So how did the inspection go? Did they wear white cotton gloves, and walk round running their fingers along surfaces looking for dust?:D

I'm assuming everything way fine. No evidence they were even there.

I'm just paranoid. I like the apartment itself and don't have money to move if given 30 days notice.

But out of twenty units, two are empty, one from an eviction (second in a year -- same apartment, oddly enough). I'm counting on them not wanting to fuck with one of their stable, non-trouble-causing renters.

Send 'em a horse head to show them you are not clownin around...
