View Full Version : goddamnit, i think i have to move again
long story, but this apartment is in an old house that is kind of falling apart and the landlords are jerks, and i don't honestly mind, but one roommate's decided to leave and i don't think the other wants to stay, and i'm certainly not about to sign a year-long committment to this dump, so i need to move again
thing is, i don't have a car and i don't want to make my dad come up and do it for me (even though he'd probably be willing, i dunno, i'd feel guilty). i think i want to hire a moving company and just pay a bunch of sweaty hairy fat guys who swear a lot do all the work for me while i watch and count my money in front of them
how much do you think that costs, generally? i don't even want to move too far out of this neighborhood, i quite like it here, so i'd basically be paying someone to just drive my shit across town. do you think they'd laugh at me? i don't want to lose the esteem of sweaty hairy guys or anything

Mang, you go to law school. You've got male classmates who like to drink. Bring it up in class: hey, I need three or four dudes to help me move and I got two-three cases of beer just sitting here not doing anything. Anybody's dad own a pickup truck?
You're set.
Also: if possible, go for an apartment in a building full of - not students - but old people. I spent almost a year living around students and it was noisy and the landlords were assholes because they knew there was going to be some other 20-something chump moving in to take my place anyway. But now that I live with old people it's nice and quiet, and people are friendly, and the landlords are super laid back.
that's pretty good advice. i don't think i have the energy to live with students anyway, i have absolutely no patience for drama. i just wanna live with a bunch of people who are up for existing in quiet desperation.
i don't wanna move, i'm really fine with this apartment as it is. but the one roommate's leaving, and the other one doesn't wanna go to the trouble of re-signing the lease and finding a new roommate and whatever else, and i'm certainly not about to take over the lease, so i guess i'll just go somewhere else. i was bound to move eventually anyways, i'm sure i wasn't going to live here forever, i just didn't expect it to happen so soon
this neighborhood's mostly pretty low-key, it's very quiet, that's why i like it. a lot of subdivided victorian houses (some of them, like this one, are very old, with leaky water heaters and heating systems that don't work), not a lot of apartment buildings or anything like that. my place is maybe a few houses away from the one busy street in the town, and i can barely hear it, that's how quiet it is, i really love it here. a lot of artists, a lot of families, a lot of gay people, it's really pretty nice

Well that's old people in a nutshell. I'm thinking about baking up a few dozen cookies, making some rounds to the lonely old great-grandmothers, maybe weasel my way into a couple of wills.
When I lived over by the university it was in a bunch of two-story three-bedroom "townhomes" linked together in units of eight. Lots of dumb sluts and musclebound douchebags. It was great for smoking up and getting drunk every day, which is basically what I did for the entire time, but that's not exactly conducive to a successful post-secondary education. Your area sounds way better.
yeah, i really love this location. boston's a big college town, but there are no colleges within walking distance of my area, you have to take a bus or train. it's maybe a 30 minute commute, piece of cake, but it's long enough so that undergrads won't live here. everyone around here is either a grad student, a professional, or a widow(er)
That sucks, man. Just plow a widow and everything should work itself out.
yeah, i'll have to move some furniture...bed, matress, dresser, nightstand, a small bookshelf, a desk...i think that's it

I bet you there are student-moving companies around. I'd help, but I hate moving or even thinking about it.
oh, that doesn't sound so bad. with all the money i saved by withholding rent i can afford that easily

Dude, just rent a U-haul and get some friends to help. How much stuff do you have, anyway?
i don't like driving in boston and i don't have any friends that i know well enough to ask help me move (i wouldn't help them move, anyway, and they wouldn't ask)

ugh. I feel you rpain, believe you me. 6+ times now within a year and 2 months. WOO.
anyways when I once hired a moving company with dudes to move my shit, it was a min of 3 hours and the cheapest I could find was at least 200 bucks.
suckage.

That sucks, Bob. I wouldn't hire a moving company. Ask you dad again. He's you dad. Even though you'll feel guilty, it's part of his job. He asked for it when he shot you in sperm form into your mothers vagina.
i guess part of it is that it's a little embarassing. it's like "oh hey, remember that apartment that i picked out all by myself, yeah, turns out it's a craphole and the heat doesn't work"
although they'll probably figure it out at some point anyways, i may as well get a free move out of it

I didn't say it wasn't embarassing. But at least it'll make your parents realize they could've done a better job so they can lay that issue to rest.
