View Full Version : I thought it was just a myth or a fable created by standup comedians

Till I actually saw it yesterday.
The jokes you'd hear comedians cracking about the fat ladies ordering food at burger joints.
I'm standing in line behind this huge lady and I'm listening to the order she's giving the guy at the counter. I can hear her clearly and it was a double cheeseburger, extra cheese and extra extra mayo. She made sure he knows to put twice the amount of mayo on it. Large curly fries, 2 slices of cheesecake and a DIET COKE.
I was thinking, "holy shit, this actually exists?" Well anyway, she got her food from the guy at the counter. Everything was perfect except he gave her a regular coke. She screamed in her real thick NY accent at him, "I said a DIIIOOOOEEETTT COKE" I mean she seemed furious at this.
It appeared that the counter guy was a veteran at this because it didn't even phase him.
Maybe she should have ordered a diet double cheeseburger instead.

Wait a minute. Are you saying not ALL americans are like that?

Faze. It didn't even faze him.
Sorry to go off topic, but this is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I'm in a bit of a mood this morning.:p

I've got an excuse there Missy P. I think so, it's 0400. I've been up since 0800 yesterday morning and the spelling nazi in me just doesn't care right now.
It's the only excuse I could think of at the moment actually. I'd try to say I've got fat fingers because my diet soda plan doesn't quite do the trick but damn, there's ALOT of leeway between the the keys to spell that correctly in order for that excuse to fly.

maybe she just, you know, prefers the taste of diet coke? because they are two quite distinct flavours. i don't think she would be kidding anyone that she's trying to be healthy with her choice of carbonated beverage over her food.

I read in an article that drinking diet coke was a "girlie" thing to do. Apparently males don't like the taste but it drives young women crazy  Then again slobbering buckets of lard ain't exactly a girlie thing to do...

If she were wearing any other type of attire, I can possibly believe that. But a sweatsuit? It didn't even look like she came from the gym or had intentions on going to the gym.

I used to see this a lot when I worked at fast food joints when I was a kid. I think maybe they are used to the taste or something. A bunch of them are trying to rationalize though like "I'll get the double big mac and supersized fries and 4 apple pies but, I'll make sure I get a diet coke to even things out".

I don't think anyone who does actually go to the gym wears sweatsuits as street wear. At least not around here, anyway - it's all the "gangsta wannabe" kids and councils estate skrags that walk around in tracksuits with cigarette butts hanging out of the corner of thier mouths that wear them around. People who use the gym usually shower and put on real clothes before they go out.
When I was in my last few weeks of pregnancy, I spent most of my time in a pair of sweatpants and a gigantic sweatshirt, and I used to joke with mr.p about how I'd become his nightmare - a fat housewife in a tracksuit sitting around watching TV and stuffing her face with ice cream LOL

If I drink sodas, I drink diet sodas. I have no more metabolism. It shot out the window when I turned 26 so I figure if I want to drink soda, I don't want to have to wear it while I'm at it.
But, if I go fatting out, I go ahead and get the real deal sodas.
I don't think it's a taste bud thing for the ladies to order diet cokes rather than regular simply because I don't think they were turned on to diet coke on their own free will. I think somewhere along the clogged line, they were told diet coke eats away fat or something.

Not low on alcohol, but low on calories. So they don't have to worry 'bout the KFC bucket and Spare ribs they're snacking on while watching sports on television.

Yeah, light beers. And you still have to worry about a beer belly if you drink them too.

Yeah, whatever. One comedian said that he's started a diet. He's smoking light cigarettes and drinking light beers.
So you're on a fat American kick eh? What, there's no fat Germans? Man, we're nearing the day of age where fatness wouldn't only be in America but, it would generate into nations of fatness.
Fatness would be our new national trade and we'd all have personal liposuction kits and we'd have no place to dump the remains other than the world's waters creating a thick film of fat on the surface.
Yeah, Jesus walks on water but GOD tromps on cellulite

Oh trust me, there are VERY fat Germans. I lived there for 4 years and GOD DAMN! There's more in the States though.

Actually I know some germans that got real fat but used to make fun of fat Americans before. So it's kinda tongue in cheek. Germans in the 50s took big pride in having a huuuuge gut cause everyone was famished during the war. Big bellies got you a cute girl back then.
Also, I think our restaurants, supermarkets, cantinas etc. take a very differing stance on people stuffing themselves, as do schools, insurance companies etc.

What, there's no fat Germans?
I do have to say, when I was in Germany/Austria recently, I did see some large people. However, even the overweight Germans seemed rather... robust. They were big, but firmish and not 'blobby', if you see what I mean. It might just be because we were in the Alps and so everyone gets all that good mountain air and nice water and all, but it did look like even the fat people had a rather healthy, energetic glow about them that I can't say I have ever seen in correspondingly sized Americans. Or Brits, for that matter.

yeah there are lots of fat germans/austrians (me included) probably cause our food is so fucking awesome
only the alp fatties are cute because of their red cheeks and their huge bellies and beards AND lederhosen
they look like all year santas

Heck, I do this. Grab a super size chocolate bar and bag of Chex mix and a Diet Pepsi.
1) I prefer the taste;
2) Just because you're going in on calories doesn't mean you're obligated to go all the way in. Where's the logic in that? It's like saying if you're going to have two scoops of ice cream, you might as well just eat a quart.

when i saw a nutritionist over the summer i asked what was one thing i should avoid to keep away from the really major spikes in my blood sugar and it was regualr soft drinks.
but until i pretty much had to change this, those sorts of stories always drove me crazy because i never cared for the taste of diet, but i've sort of grown accustomed to it now, even though its not all that often

While this hint about soft drinks might be true from the sugar/heart attack pov, I seriously doubt these artificial sweeteners are not bad for you.
