Yeesh. How fucking stupid do you have to be to accidentally get hit by a train?
We've had a bunch of people hit by trains around these parts in the last year. A federal judge just got hit by the light rail yesterday downtown. (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/16632955.htm)
I mean, how fucking STUPID do you have to be? You know where the tracks are, so it's not like you don't know the train's path. There are all kinds of clanging bells; it's not like you're rounding a building's corner and it jumps out at you...
I dunno. I'm short on sympathy for these stupid fuckers.
Didn't Kid Pres or somebody's relative get hit by a train not too long ago?
Might be a bad time.
edit: guess it was bionic.

My big mouth. Sorry, bionic -- this is the first I'm hearing about it.
So how did it happen? I just can't wrap my head around this.

i was sorta just kidding, no worries, a-z
he's doing well... he's alive and walking! no one knows how he's alive, he mustve tried to move at the last second and hit the the front corner, so it wasnt a head on impact. i still don't know exactly what happened. i think it must be embarassing because no one is saying anything about details.
i was thinking the same thing... "how the fuck does someone get hit by a train???", but my mom thinks it was an attempted suicide. he's sort of a troubled kid

Thanks for being cool about this. I wasn't trying to be a dick, but it looks like I succeeded.
Yeah, we've had some suicides here, and I can understand that. It's the accidents I don't get. I just don't understand how distracted you have to be to get hit by a train.
these light rails downtown are going maybe 10 miles an hour, too. It's not like something barreling out of nowhere.
Anyway, I'm sorry for your family, Bionic. I was disrespectful. Whether I knew someone here had a family member who got hurt or not shouldn't have mattered. Sorry.

Well that guy on the "I shouldn't be alive" show (or was it medical emergencies? I dont remember) for Discovery Channel was just walking across the tracks to get across them and somehow got his foot stuck pretty badly and couldn't get it untangled. Five minutes later, there was a train, and he was hit. It did seem completely accidental and palpable and not really a "You dumbfuck!" moment.
there's at least one area in boston where i could see geting hit by a train.

basically, it's a busy road, the red lines are where the cars go, and the green lines are trains. there are a bunch of intersections like that up and down the road, i bet it's even busier in other parts. it's the only place in boston where i've seen college kids look both ways before crossing the road.
i myself have yet to remember which train comes from which direction, so i always do a double take. they're like street-cars on that part of the track, they have brakes and stuff, but i could definitely see getting hit by a train there if you're drunk/not paying attention/an asshole

I think this is one time when I shouldn't cover my ass. It was tactless; people have called me on that, and they're right, and it's making me take a look at myself. I'm angrier on this board and in real life than I have any reason to be, and I need to sort that out. No excuses.

miss deaf texas got hit by a train last year. is that a reasonable excuse?
...i'd have thought you'd feel the ground rumble. or shit, you're deaf -- walk beside the tracks.
i read somewhere that a train hits you so hard, that you're physically removed from your shoes. amazing!

There used to be this video on the Big Brother magazine website. An asian woman in a typical asian woman way is walking brusquely fast towards the tracks, completely oblivious to her surroundings even though she's not listening to music or reading a book, then BLAM! outta nowhere comes the train and she flies outta the screen...

It's just hard for me to understand -- again, accenting ACCIDENTALLY -- getting hit. They even talked about building fences all along the Caltrain tracks to keep people out, which I thought was excessive.
I don't understand, I guess, the lack of respect for trains that makes people think they can actually dodge the things. If it's close enough that you have to strategize, just don't cross. Let the thing go by.
This judge getting hit was just kind of the kicker for me. It makes me mad. The worst one was the babysitter that got a toddler killed (http://www.topix.net/content/kri/3705819209004368704326015374761756257304) and also endangered his four year old brother. It's so sad.
