He just got cable internet and uses Internet Explorer to connect him. When he uses it though, instead of pictures popping up, all he gets is a red x in place. He's tried adjusting things in the internet options, but nothing works.

I'd help but I don't know either so let me know what he should do so I can tell him. It's really beginning to piss him off.

tell him internet explorer sucks and kick him in the balls

say it's from me and he will understand

wait 15 minutes and then do the same to yourself

serious advice, tell him to switch to firefox. IE sucks, the only people who use it are the people who've never tried firefox

i used to be all pro internet explorer, all like "oh no way, i don't need your lame fag ass indie web browser, i'm fine with this the way it is, go shove your faggy firefox up your fireass, faggotfoxfagass"

then one day i actually tried firefox and i haven't gone back. nobody goes back.

maybe his firewall doesn't allow pictures for some reason

My shit was fine. I already had firefox but he wanted to stick with internet explorer. I was just looking for other advice but I'll just tell him Bob said so and that's that.

according to microsoft these (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283807) are the reasons for this error

Or he could just go Tools->Internet Options->Advanced and check the box that says "Show pictures"

I still don't need the "lame ass faggoty indie browser", as bob so eloquantly put it, and am quite happy with internet explorer. There's nothing wrong with it these days and whoever tries to tell you different is just blindly following the herd and probably doesn't really know what they're talking about. You'll find firefox has had it's fair share of security issues, but what annoyed me the most was that they are so far up their asses with this tabbed browsing thing that they havn't even put in a way to disable it. I had to download a dodgy third party plug in just so that I could use it without tabs. You know, not everyone loves the tabs.

end rant

Thanks tpk. Appreciate it.

And only folks who ride the short bus actually enjoy using Internet Explorer.

end rantthe only thing better in practice with IE would be security as most people use windows which are both by microsoft obviously. i use both IE and firefox on a daily basis and i could drop a way to long list of pros and cons for both and there'd be no doubt firefox would be ranked first. the new IE 7 is cool design and layout wise but, seriously, the biggest reason for that is that they've taken all the ideas from firefox, and "improved" them with all the money they've put into it. fact still is though, microsoft always have a tendency to make things flashier than what they can handle. i mean, trillian works better for my msn im account than the microsoft msn software itself!

anyway, there's a lot of annoying problems with IE that don't exist with firefox. but i guess it also depends on how used you are to using computers. IE is definitely more friendly in that sense.

and also, there is an option to disable tabs in firefox. -> Tools -> Options -> Tabs -> uncheck "Always show the tab bar" and select "a new window" under "New pages should be opened in:".

My advice is to buy a porn magazine. Help keep the tree killing industry alive...
