This morning as I left work the snow had been falling for about an hour before my supervisor had the brains to tell us we could all go and I skidded twice on the way home then it took a few goes to get up the driveway.

E-brake is good fun. Just don't overdo it.

does the average brit own a shovel?

here's a little hint that you probably already know: when your car gets stuck don't go with your instinct to hit the accelerator hard, but go it slow and try to get some traction. also, keep cardboard in your car, it comes in handy in those situations where you cant get out - throw them shits under the fronts of your wheels.

Are you guys getting that much snow? Yowza.

Snow is so much fun though. For a while, anyway. And if you have some toys. (y)

I recommend an 10" x 10" piece of wood instead...but either will work.

We have a senior community center near our house...and the parking lot is completely empty 90% of the time so anytime it snows we e-brake that shit like it was going out of style.

Many a Scot owns a snow shovel and a sack of rock salt, they sell them in supermarkets and petrol stations and everywhere else up here.

Far fewer English types, especially southerners.

well I recommend a bag of kitty litter in your trunk in the winter months. it desolves the snow and provides some nice traction. It also provides some weight to the back of the car if you drive a car that slides around. I live in Chicago, I know cold, so listen to me.

Yeah, we had kitty litter or rock salt.

Also: spare blanket, coffee can with sand and a candle (that alone can heat the inside of a car by about 10 degrees if necessary).

I thought about the cardboard trick under the wheels but not enough snow had fallen anyway(y)

Where I come from it's not unusual to drive with snow billowing over the hood of the car. And I drive a blazer. Pretty much sweet stuff.

Wow, do you really have a rear-wheel drive car? I haven't driven one since my parents' 1979 Monte Carlo.

I love driving in the nighttime and looking for an empty superstore parking lot that's filled with ice and snow.

I'd burn out almost a whole tank of gas just by driving like a maniac doing donuts and slides all night long.
