Its not like those stories are being neglected. They're all being reported on the front page, but they just aren't the headline of the day.

What do I care about more? North Korea's nuke program, and I think everyone would agree that the issue there is of much more importance. But anytime a celebrity dies, whether we like them or not, it is news worthy and should get play for a respectable time period.
