first of all, i got sunburn like a motherfucker. i am an idiot. i accept that.

hung out with hellojello (and her friends gave us a lift back to the hostel) which was awesome

said a bit of a hi to minton, his girlfriend and a brief hello to rancid.

we were at the back for most of it, so to be honest, we didn't see much.
we did hear it though. i'm too tired to think really. maybe i'll get on it when i'm less tired

Dunno about you Miriam, but I LOVED it. I spose because I was pretty much front row. I was on the rail but to the side right infront of DJ Ajax so I was higher that in the mosh, it was absolutely perfect. Sat there for 7 hours before Beastie's came on, but it was WELL worth it. Only thing bad was it went to quick. Adrock was metres from me an waved at me an recognised my shirt (happiest iv ever been). Im tellin yall nowm the Adrock funk is AMAZING, his top lip facing his eyebrow, tongue out, dancing, he's an absolute LEGEND ! Got some GREAT footage too of them like on the side of stage while snoop was on. MCA = Super cool an always will be. Adrock dancing to Snoop - P.i.m.p an Mike bobbing his head. When it was nearly time for the boys to come on Adrock walked away from the side bit to the back with his hands in the air still bobbing to snoop. Got footage of a lot of songs. Well me friend did. Im in Melbourne now at a mates place, going home soon to bed, will put the video's on the hub an chat more when I wake, anyway just given ya the update like I promised.

Word To Beastie's(!)

trying to answer some questions - the set was maybe an hour long.. they just basically played all the radio hits. as i said before, i really could see shit since i was riiiiight at the back. but i had lots of room to dance and move around. i couldn't hear too well either because when you're outside of the "bowl" the sound is shitty.
adrock said "waitwaitwaitwaitwait" to stop the songs a few times.
i'm probably not the best person to review, but it was alright. it wasn't anywhere near as good as the festival hall show two years ago, but i still had a good time.

I thought Yauch was pretty low key for the set. It was one of those sets where he stood in the back and let Diamond and Horovitz roam back and forth across the stage. He wasn't very Yauchish -- you know, not very goofy. Except for the wiggle-wiggle thing.

well hopefully he's like, holding out, for later shows or something. :D

Pass the Mic (with B Boys banter at the beginning) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXoIEpFwWIw)

Technical problems, apologies, happy birthday to Mark, and the beginning of "Sabrosa" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDfSB0Ar44w)

"Lighten Up" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwcvzz3ZO-w)

I'll be posting photos to my Flickr account soon too.

If you get a "video not available" page, check back. I just uploaded them, so they still may be processing.

Thanks for posting these.

Pass the Mic sounded pretty fresh. Yeah, Horovitz flubbed his line...but it was a smooth re-entry and then MMM drops in a nice beat. (y)

Just watched the footage from last night. My mate did an AWSOME job. Got the whole of Root Down, Most of Pass The Mic, Sure Shot, No Sleep an a bit more. The footage of when I was filming Snoop then slowly panned across to the side of the stage which was like right infront of me an just watching smiling an bouncing to Snoop an Mike just bobbing his head. Lots of footage of Alfredo too watching J5. Beastie's went off, theres a lot of me an my mate screaming to the music but im not gonna hold back for the camera. Footage is really clear too. Another highlight of the day was when the chick from Sneaky Sound System saw me from the other side of the stage an smiled, then walked across stage an bent down sang to me an then hugged me, was awsome haha. 20 thousand people looking down at this hot chick huggin me haha. DJ Ajax who was like directly 1 metre infront of me was the dude who stuffed up the schedule. The guy were actually getting angry at him in the end tellin him to get the fuck off.
Was an insane day but just so pissed off its all over an that there not in Melbourne anymore an may not be again for a LONG time. Like when leaving the concert I just looked back an though "fuck, adrock is like less than a few hundred metres from me an im walking the opposite way". But theres no chancewe could have met the boys. Ah well ill keep dreaming.
Will capture the footage in the morning an put it on the hub so people with fast internet can chuck it on youtube.
Sorry I havnt kept yall updated but I got home at 5am an today was a recovery day.

Thanks Yall, and Thanks to Beastie's for comin to Melbourne an makin me Happy. Respect.

Oh by the way my mate was gonna film the whole concert but the security gaurd told him to turn off the camera

Dunno why, cause there were HEAPS of people with video camera's. At the end during Sabotage I just said "fuck it give it to me" an filmed zooming in on Adrock an ya can just see this faget security gaurd hand going back an forth across the camera teling me to stop I just ignored him an kept filming. I wasnt causing any trouble.

But yeah, I did my best for all of yall (!)

Oh-oh. You're getting serious.

I have to say that I felt bad that the Melbourne fans didn't get something good. They deserved it.
I am trying to reserve judgement. I'm sure it was just an unfortunate combo of situations; working on music that they weren't playing that night, jet-lag, the heat, fuck knows what else.

But still.

well, i just got back from the gold coast. yeah, it was a great show, they didn't really fuck up any lines. mike seemed a bit high tho. one thing that really surprised me was that they didn't play body moving. and i think it was money mark who kept running around the stage sliding on boxes and shit, twas kinda weird. anyway, i'll elaborate on it more tomorow. just been driving for an hour and a half, my legs are fucking sore and i feel like i'm about to fall asleep at the computer

Just based on some of the comments here by people that was there (technical problems, forgetting lines, etc), but again many of them have been to the greatest beastie shows so they would have to play a perfect show just to get in their top 10 list.

Also, I do believe that a bad beastie show is better than some of the perfect ones from other artist.

They fucked up alot before the pageant show and then killed it during tour. I'll look at this as just a warmup.

I am happy for those of you that got to enjoy this show that may not get to see them alot!

Another thing I forgot to mention about the Beastie show which I thought was pretty cool was that Adrock had a Bintang bottle during the show. Bintang = Indonesian Beer. After one song I saw him walk near Mix Mastrers stand an spit on the ground then take a sip of the Bintang an lick his lips an do a funny kinda face. I think he was just thinkin "LET ME CLEAR MY THROAT !". Was pretty funy though, just spat on the stage hahah.

Kid Presentable
02-12-2007, 12:25 AM
I'm showing my goofiness, but I don't recognize the beat on Pass the Mic, at all. Could Adrock have fucked up because he thought they were going into a new song? Maybe not (in fact, probably not).

I'm keeping an open mind about next Sunday's show. My communications with Melbourne came from a very dramatic source. I don't mean disrespect by relaying that stuff, but people were disappointed.

Regardless I will probably be up the front, smoking a (insert smokable here) and shouting "Play some new stuff!".

Sup everybody, this is my review.

I got there early so I managed to grab a good seat in the 5th row I think so I got to see J5, Snoop and of course the Beasties up close and motherfuckin personal:) . I thought overal the festival's organisation was great, considering there was 25000+ people and the amount of alcohol consumed, I did not see one scuffle or any sign of trouble. The only thing that annoyed people a little was how long it took to start letting people in!

IMO, J5 definitely impressed me the most, they really got the crowd involved in the show and it was immensly appreciated as every time they mentioned "Melbourne" or the beat stopped the roar of the crowd was almost deafening. Jayou, Great Expectations, Concrete Schoolyard, Quality Control shined.

Then Snoop showed up. I'm not a fan but I actually liked his show, he can rock it live without a doubt. It was kind of weird because obviously his songs just did not gel with the whole Good Vibrations idea but I think most kids realise he's just an entertainer and cannot take him seriously, so it kind of ended up being a nice touch by the organisers. From his 'old school' days til now the crowd certainly enjoyed and greated every single song he performed. Gin and Juice, What's My Name, P.I.M.P and Next Episode seemed to be the crowd favourites.

So after a short delay and much anticipation from myself and I think everybody else there, MMM appeared. He was quite amazing, he mixed up some old school favourites De La, Cypress and House of Pain, to then introduce the beasties with a AIFST-show-like intro to quickly cut to "Root Down". As the Beasties ran on to the stage one by one in their suits I thought to myself this will be a great show. But it wasn't great, it was good but not great :) . Don't get me wrong I'm an elitist when it comes to Beastie boys, I have been a fan for 18 years and have worshipped them like most of your here, so saying GOOD is still pretty fucking great compared to most bands - but I was slightly disappointed with their apparent lack of enthusiasm and fucking up their lines so much. I mean MCA had his hand in his pocket and just stood there disinterested for most of the show :) . Mike D was lively but seemed exhausted (prolly jetlagged) and forgetting his lyrics and fucking up one a few ocassions. Adrock shined I thought, he was the most active running around, talking to the crowd yelling like a moffucka like he usually does. Yeah, he fucked up a few lines but nothing that can't be forgiven. However, saying all this, the crowd still loved them to death, laughed at their every joke cheered Mike C's every attempt at dancing. There was a number of highlights, I thought their 'instrumentals' were absolutely great (ironically this is when some people started to leave). Out of hip hop I thought Root Down, Pass The Mic, No Sleep Til Brooklyn, Intergalactic (this rocked the most, everyone started shaking their asses and tits to this one) and Sure Shot and Ch-Check it Out took the cake. Sabotage started off strong but Adrock just could help himself and goofed too much during the singing bits (even though it was the last song they played). Paul Revere I thought was the biggest disappointment, Adrock rocked, but firstly the crowd didn't seem to know the lyrics! when Adrock asked them to sing it (WTF) and then MCA forgot or refused to sing half of his verses, and then he would simply mumble some retarted shit, I mean MCA is my man usually I love the dude, he is always such a professional when delivering the lyrics but that night he just couldn't wait to get the fuck outta dodge. Mike joined in at "get ready cus this aint funny..." MMM then cut the beat to Green Lantern's remix (btw the song started off with the bits from the remix including some verses from Method Man?) and it just additionally confused the crowd! Damn it:D

As already mentioned Intergalactic absolutely rocked the place like a minor earthquake - everyone knows this song man, it was the loudest and most explosive song and MCA actually livened up all of a sudden (fuck I hate myself for criticizing the man so much). So whatcha want was good as well, very similar to their VH1 Hip Hop Honours show, a few muted lines but overall good.

Mike wished Money Mark a happy birthday to which the whole fucking music bowl cheered loudly, a nice touch. They said they talked to the mayor of Melbourne and told him that they have 'skills to pay to bills', that was a cool intro to the song.

So there you have it. I hope you don't get the wrong impression here, they were GOOD and I certainly fucking loved the show but just pointing out the positives and the negatives of their performance that night (plus this is all my opinion, different people might have experienced it differently).

Later kids,

MD

That is Yauch's typical stage presence. It's supposed to denote coolness, not disinterest.

Hand in pocket = The Yauch :D

I think if there had been a Message Board posse at the front of the stage encouraging them, they probably would have done much better. Bands need encouragement to do well. Laurie was on his own down there.

What Laurie posted about the band taking surfing lessons was a little annoying for me to read. Sure, they should enjoy themselves while they're here, but not before putting in a little rehearsal time. It's unprofessional not to rehearse.

Youch is the main man, no doubt. He must have been jetlagged to the bone - I have seen some of their other shows, yes he is pretty static but he generally does get involved a bit more one way or another, this time he just seemed somewhat absent if you get my drift :). Could his age also be a factor? I hope not.
