My dad just got a new used car.

Apparently it's a 1982 Avanti. Originally manufactured by Studebaker. And I can't find out much about it, other than what Wiki told me. Anyone heard of them? He said there were only 200 made and it's a sports-like car and looks kinda corvette-like.

My dad needs to stop buying older cars. I know it's a hobby, but damn. :mad:

Ha ha. That website says that the ones made in the early 1980s were returned because the paint didn't stick -- it was coming off in sheets -- and the owner had to repaint the cars, sometimes more than once. Then he went bankrupt. That's the kind of wacky collectible I could get behind. That website also seems to indicate that they're not too expensive, but I'm sure that depends a lot on condition.

I like Avanti's You could buy an original Avanti in the earlier 60's with a centrifugal supercharged 289. Pretty cool. I think the one you dad bought is probably a chevy engine.

my uncle's got a couple of very nice Corvette Stingrays, but besides that yank cars can be pretty ordinary. Aussie cars are even worse tho

I was thinking that, too. But he's got several cars like that, he collects them and fixes them up as a hobby, and has done so ever since he was muuuuch younger. He's had his '64 Barracuda convertible for years now. He overhauled the engine and put in duel-exhaust and all this other shit. I think mid-life crisis cars are more like what my ex had...his dad bought a yellow corvette when he turned 45, and mind you it was AUTOMATIC! A FUCKING AUTOMATIC CORVETTE! WHAT A PUSSY. Almost as pussy as my ex getting an AUTOMATIC SUBARU WRX! GOD. DAMN. IT. What was WRONG with that family?

Yeah automatics(n) I dont mind auto's in full size trucks or SUV's. I had an auto in my Mustang but that was more of a drag car.
