Her producer is mighty handy with the sample tunes on Casio keyboards.

ha ha sweet. It's probably her dad in that little studio they have in the back garden.

Fact. Lily was going to be one of the sugarbabes.

i really like her, but i can never respect an artist who comes to australia and skips perth.

not fucking cool lily.

Nothing against her, but it bugs me that there are so many perky women making music right now. It's almost as bad as the boy bands back in their heyday.

i really like her album. i started listening to it cause nastee made some comment about how awesome it was, and the album was at my place of work. i was listening to it today while i walked to my train, and the music was so empowering, i ended up strutting to the train. i like that song smile. mostly cause i feel that way too as of late.

aaaahahahah! s'cool, no worries.
i get annoyed people go 'eh, she's a bit of a mouthy cow and she's popular and has a number one and is apparently mainstream, ERGO she must be shit!' (not that you were, my dear, but that's the general opinion i get in everyday life) without giving her album a chance. listen to it first, then judge. i didn't like the reggae-lite of smile, but i read an outstanding guardian review, absolutely shining, investigated it further and woah, she impresses.

because her album truly is a thing of greatness and she is superb live, too. she's very funny. quite the lyric mastah.

'alfie' is my favourite song, as whoever has visited my gheyspace has noticed. it sounds like some bizarre nightmareish lullaby. it's fucking awesome. i can't help but do a wee dance everytime i hear it and grin.

i also like LDN, everything's just wonderful, knock em out, and friday night. smile is my least favourite song. if you go to her homepage, not myspace, she has some pretty awesome mixtapes up in thurr. nan you're a window shopper is fantastic, too, but couldn't be included on the album because of ghey rights issues.

it sounds lame, but i find it difficult to find famous people of my generation nowadays who aren't exactly role models (she's a bit of a cow sometimes, hah) but articulate things you may be feeling. everything's just wonderful/friday night especially.

she's a cool lass. give 'er a chance!

yeh i just don't really dig smile, as it was played to death on the radio here, and that's all i knew

then i heard the rest and really liked the rest of the album, mostly the songs you mentioned (alfie especially)

she only just hit the american market... i think the album was released in aust about 6 months ago? and in england/eurpoe before that... here's the orig. thread
http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=68789

i think non-american artists often have to "prove" themselves in their own country before they are allowed to try and break into the elusive american market.

so i like a couple of the songs. but i dont think i will ever buy anything because of who her dad is. that is the sad and harsh reality. i thought i was better than that, evidently this is not the case.

haha, brodie doesn't like keith allen because he is a bit of a mouthy cunt (like father like daughter eh) and he has this whole annoying 'geezer' schtick. he's a bit of a, well.. wanker, really. he makes good documentaries nowadays though. incredibly one-sided and ego-stroking documentaries, but still.. entertaining.

I still think Smile is delightful after all this time. I reckon she'd be an awesome festival act so this summer should be interesting.

I love Lily Allen. I've been listening to her music every single day since I don't know when.:)

My favorites are: Cheryl Tweedy, LDN, Everything's Just Wonderful, Smile and Friday Night. But I love them all!

Out of the "lairy popular lady singers" I prefer Amy Winehouse.

Lily Allen is pretty good though, I agree that "Smile" got overplayed to crap last summer but she has decent songs.

super groovy record. she's got a refreshing attitude, i think, and the music is great. never heard of her producer, Mark Ronson, before, but i'm gonna definitely pay attention to what he works on in the future.

that song "windowshopper" is off the chain, music-wise and even lyrically.

You've never heard of Mark Ronson? That dude is everywhere in the UK.

Have you heard his covers album? The ODB version of 'Toxic' is well worth a listen...

Nelly Furtado part II!

i'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree. nelly furtado lacks perosnality and just kind of falls into that typical attractive young diva stencil to me. given I'm not as familar with her work as Allen's, what I have gathered is that Lily's charm stems from her attitude wherein Furtado isn't quite as recognizable among other female artists.

furtado sounds too much like madonna in the 80's. and she's too plain i've never really seen a distinctive personality in her, all she has is Timbaland

I don't care what people think or say about her, or what she says-I like her. I wouldn't go as far as to say that she's my new favorite singer or anything like that, but she's definitely good. LDN is probably my favorite song, along with Friday Night. and Smile, and Alfie, and Take What You Take...

Her videos are pretty nice too, especially "Alfie".

She's fun to listen to.

Sometimes.
