As a recent convert (not entirely) from metal to Beastie Boys and Pendulum, metal still holds a special place in my heart that can't be filled by ordered, rhyming vocals and steady grooves. And browsing around i have failed to notice any mention of metal in these threads, so i thought I'd toss it up and see who popped out of cyberspace with similar tastes. Anyone? Sabbath, Lamb of God, Opeth, et. al.?

Why does everyone trash Justice? I think it was a pretty fucking good album. Sure its not perfect, but it had some really good songs on it. Although I never noticed how the bass was almost non existent in the album until someone (possibly from here) pointed it out.

Sabbath
Megadeth
AN-MUTHAFUCKIN-THRAX
Pantera
Maiden
Slayer

Still rockin them. Except Maiden. Haven't listened to them for a looooong time, and I dont really miss it.

The sorta-metal I liked, you guys probably wouldn't consider metal. Like Led Zeppelin, Jane's Addiction, Blue Oyster Cult, stuff like that.

I liked Master of Puppets, but Metallica just gets real old real fast, to me.

Jane's Addiction is metal?

Rock
02-14-2007, 01:24 PM
I was wondering the same thing.

I would classify the 3 you listed, A-Z, as RAWK, not metal.

Like I said: you guys probably wouldn't consider them metal. But, yeah, they're considered metal.

But, yeah, they're considered metal.
By who? The people who thought Jethro Tull put out a better metal album than Metallica?

Didn't we all go through this with one of DS' threads? The Great "What is Metal?" debate.

Go to wiki or All Music Guide or your place of choice and look up "heavy metal" and I'll bet you at least see Zeppelin and BOC there, if not all three.

Dragonforce

You mean somebody actually likes them? Cheesiest band and band name ever. I thought Manowar was bad.

Why does everyone trash Justice?

I love Justice. It was like a breakthrough for them, the tightening of the kick drums, the distortion setting. It was an awesome sounding album and if they would have stayed with that style then I would have bought every single album after that.

I still listen to:

Corrosion of Conformity
Ministry- even though they'd most likely be considered industrial, they're pretty damn heavy
Pantera
Mastodon
Anthrax- but the more I listen to their most recent, the more I get upset.
Megadeth
Suicidal Tendencies- I wish they would still be around

Those are my main. I can't get into any of the recent metal bands.

Rock

I'm sure they definitely have Zeppelin on there, but I still can never consider them metal.

If they don't use heavy distortion, tons of power chords, tons of muted power chords and don't get widdly widdly weeeeeeee in their guitar solos, I can't call them metal.

But hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if yours are wrong. *Insert non homo just kidding winky smiley here*

Yeah, I know. But I think what you guys are talking about is a way that heavy metal mutated. Like, to me, Metallica's stuff was speed metal, not heavy metal. Semantics, I s'pose.

I find it that nerds, kids who got picked on a lot, heterosexual males who try hard to be a "man" and fat kids like metal.

Metal is one of the most hilarious and pathetic music genres out there. It's really all about technique and that's boring.

You're spelling is hilarious and pathetic. Candiria puts out albums with not only metal tracks, but with some of the best modern jazz and hip-hop you'll never hear. Well, you probably just woke up. Time to grab a beer. Here's to being naive. Cheers!

Hahaha!

Working in kitchens there's always metalheads around, so I've been exposed to lots of metal - some of it quite good, but most of it fucking terrible. I'm also fairly good friends with a couple of members of local metal bands and I've gone out to a couple of shows, but it's really not my thing. The closest I get is Tool and Maiden, which I'm known to throw on every now and then.

Exactly. Metal of today is far different than how it started out. Led Zeppelin and Converge sound like polar opposites. Whatever you want to say, Led Zep helped get the metal train rolling, and to deny their origins/connections/whatever is silly.

pendulum? you have taste (y) and i'm 99% sure you're aussie or a pom?

Honestly, how in the hell did you pick that one? Aussie. (Got some great gigs coming up... Lamb of God (again!), Dragonforce, just saw Tool, Fear Factory and DevilDriver recently paid a visit). Fantastic, it's always encouraging to see that a metal thread can pull a crowd, especially one with so many mentions of Sabbath. While we're dealing with the past, I thought Zeppelin were considered heavy metal... that mix of blues and rock, especially on tracks like Dazed and Confused, is the founding principle of heavy metal, right?
If you like Maiden, check out a little Aussie band called Black Steel... really talented and if its any indication of our metal scene then i want to know why I haven't seen it emerge sooner.
And DIGI, you crack me up. Even if your grammar is incorrect whilst you try to correct poor spelling. Who knows, maybe my use of 'whilst' is out of place and the next person can have a good laugh.

All I hear nowadays is Sacred Reich, S.O.D., M.O.D., D.R.I., Gang Green, Anthrax, Monster Magnet, Rob Zombie, Suicidals, Pantera, Korn and Motörhead.
I was heavily into Death Metal when I was 15 and 16. Carcass, Napalm Death, Entombed, Death, Pestilence. Those names always make me lol nowadays...
I dunno if you'd count the Hives, Turbonegro, Hellacopters, Demonics, Gluecifer and the Bonez as Metal. I wouldn't call 'em Punk. Deathpunk maybe. Bah, labeling music = suck!
This thread seems to pop up every 2 months at least...

Velveeta= cheesy. Sorry, I forgot an e.
