yes, it's next tuesday. i've been invited to a pancake party! when i say party, i mean going round to my friend jennifer's house and eating plates and plates of pancakes drinking vanilla vodka and LOLing.
pancakes are one of a list of products that the stewart family historically cannot cook but keep on trying anyway that include meringue, omelette, and swiss rolls.

Last week at Brownies one group was having a belated Burns supper and the other was having premature pancakes.
Haggis or pancakes is not a hard choice for a 7 year old.
And so then I guess it's Lent?
It's been a long time since I met a Christian who still does that.

Pancakes with peanut butter and syrup are outrageously tasty.

It's a Christian thing, you have to do it before Lent. or not, if you don't believe in that stuff, but you can still eat pancakes.

*Raises hand*
However, this pancake thing is new to me, we have Fat Tuesday in the states, that's the only bingeing that I know of.
It's the same thing, we just thought of a nicer name for it.

Mmmmm. Pancakes.
I cheat though. I buy Aunt Bessie's readymade ones. :o A couple of years ago I attempted to make some and they were a disaster and stuck to the pan. Him indoors was so disappointed, bless him.

It's a bloody art form I swear. My mum used to knock out about 20 pancakes in a flash, none stuck. Mine are too think and the pan ends up soaking in the sink for three days.
An old lady at a bus stop once told me to put the batter in the fridge over night, and make sure the oil is hot.

when you say pancakes, nivs, do you mean flat crepe-like pancakes or pure scotch thick delicious pancakes? eh eh eh?
Nivvie

I mean a large, three inch thick Yorkshire pudding in a frying pan. There needs to be a new catagory for my pancakes.
I have tried to make crepe things, no good.
And my proper pancakes are always runny in the middle, and if they're not, they're burned on the outside.

could you elaborate on this one?.....I am a pancake whore. I must know.
It's like a coaster you can fit in your toaster.

Pancakes are truly wonderful things. Especially Scots ones.
I cant make them for shit though. :( I got the "burnt/runny middle" issues.

Pretty much yeah. It doesnt taste like a scone though, it's hard to describe, but "like toasted, sweet, soft batter" would be my best attempt.

The gas grid doesn't reach me, so I have to use a crappy electric hob that only knows two temps, stupidly hot and off.
