Hey guys,

I'm a journalism student, and am currently working on a research thesis about Tibet.

I would love to talk to the Beastie Boys about Tibetan human rights issues for my paper.

Do you know of any way I could get in touch with them? I would really, really appreciate it.

Thank you!

First, you got to find the area code for outer space. Once you find that, I can actually help you out

& only 1 name came up, so it could be that easy

Thank you! Unfortunately, I tried a website like that and they wanted $50 dollars. I'm trying to avoid spending money I don't have.

Still, thanks! I really appreciate it.

Yeah. And knowing my luck, I'd probably end up spending $50 dollars on the phone number of some chicken farmer in Iowa.

Maybe a goat farmer, but definately not a chicken farmer.

but hey, that'd be a pretty hot interview too, though. chicken farmers are huge right now. seriously, just ask the colonel.

So I have to say, the hunt for the Beastie Boys is not going as well as I hoped.

The Capitol Records e-mail address they provide on their website does not work. Nor does the section for the press.

And their phone line is a piece of shit. I wanted to talk to the operator, so I pressed zero like the automated phone answering system suggested. It just took me back to the main menu!

I finally managed to get in touch with the human resources desk because hey...maybe I would get to talk to a human. But no, their mailbox is full.

If I managed to leave a message, it was me screaming "Fuck you, Capitol Records!" and my roommate laughing at me in the background.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Are you trying to get me to call a prostitute or something?

They're pulling your leg here. If you're at all familiar with Beastie Boys' productions (especially Paul's Boutique) you'd know it's a sample from them...

I kind of doubt that you'd make a connection with them on the basis of this. If it's a thesis on Tibet -- not necessarily benefit concerts or something a little more up their line -- I don't think any of the Boys, however knowledgeable, would look good as an expert source in your research.

I could maybe maybe maybe see it if you were writing for your campus paper maybe maybe, but just for your own research, I don't think it's realistic. Just one opinion.

I understand that they have distanced themselves from the topic.

A portion of my paper focuses on the American response to the plight of Tibet, and I'm looking for some more diverse people to speak with. I can talk to Amnesty International and Students for a Free Tibet all I want (I'm a member of both), but when it comes down to it my paper is going to need something more.

At least with the Beastie Boys I can talk to them about the concerts they have organized, etc.

And when it comes to celebrities, it comes down to the Beastie Boys and Richard Gere.

I DO NOT WANT TO TALK TO RICHARD GERE.

Some of the people who are already on my interviewing schedule are a professor from Australia National University who wrote what is considered to be one of the best guides to Tibetan Buddhism, a youth ambassador to Tibet, a Tibetan monk, and an Asian studies professor from Ithaca College.

So I don't know everything about the Beastie Boys. At least I didn't try to contact the guy from "Pretty Woman."

What do you have against Richard Gere? He was a pretty good actor at one time. Don't judge him based on Pretty Woman alone. That was a horrible movie but he's done better.

I finished college a long time ago, but I don't believe that any of my professors would have been impressed with what a celebrity said about a current events or historical topic. My sense is that Americans are less interested in the issue than they used to be. I almost never see the stickers on cars anymore.

You might try contacting Erin Potts. (http://www.beastiemania.com/whois/potts_erin/)

She might prove to be a good resource and might be able to put you on the path to Yauch.

Good luck!

Actually, my professor recommended them to me. Anyone that can get over 100,000 people to attend a concert dedicated to freeing Tibet is probably someone to speak with.

Frankly, I've seen Richard Gere in more than a few movies, and his acting never really impressed me. But that's besides the point. The point is...I'm trying to get in touch with the Beastie Boys to talk about their past endeavors with the human rights issues surrounding Tibet and China.

You could speak with JTCann. He's a "Gere" head.
