I have looked though my collection of Beastie Boys TV appearance clips, asked Ben (who has a huge collection of TV clips), checked YouTube.com, asked Mike Watt...now I am asking you all (the good people of the message board).
Do you have the short (probably less than 5 minutes) appearance that Mike D, Mike Watt, and (I think) Del tha Funkee Homosapien made on the Arsenio Hall Show?
if so please private message me here at the message board or email me at

As legend has it, they performed together as a "super-group."

sweet lineup. i'm not a huge fan of Watts' solo material either, but his appearances are usually pretty solid. he really is a bitchin' bass player. Del is th shit too, obviously. it's just that "Mike D" I'm not so sure about........not a fan.....:D

Mike D made a guest appearance on Mike Watt's solo album back in the mid 90s. The cut is called "E-Ticket Ride" or something to that effect. My guess is that this performance corresponds.

The performance was for the Judgement Night soundtrack... It was a song that Dinosour Jr performed with Del on vox and Mike D on drums.... I used to have it on VHS, but who knows where its at now..... That album is still one of my fav's... It had all these great bands doing trax with hip hop artists... My fav track was probably the one with Pear Jam and Cypress Hill.... Good Shit....

Ok, so that explains a little more about it to me. So the song was "Missing Link" and it was performed by Mike Watt, Del, Mike D, and J Mascis (from Dinosaur Jr.). I had mentioned J Mascis' involvement previously in the Who's Whos entry for Mike Watt over at Beastiemania.com...but didn't know how he fit in with the other two.
I am a big fan of the Judgment Night Soundtrack. I have a Gold Record Award for it hanging in my guest bedroom (thank you eBay). I have picked up most of the cd maxi singles (for the album's tracks) which feature some great remixes (by Jam Master Jay). But, now the plot thickens...with this info regarding the Arsenio Hall appearance.
I wonder if Mike D played on the album version of the track. He isn't credited in the liner notes.
I just visited the Dinosaur Jr. message board (http://www.freesofree.net/) and did some searching I saw a thread there where someone had requested this TV appearance too. But, when I tried to add an additional post to it...it was locked. I think the Dinosaur Jr. fans are pretty well organized when it comes to online file sharing...perhaps that is where we're going to need to turn in order find this long lost TV appearance.

I was just going through the message board posts here and saw that MXY recently posted a link to this performance which I asked about ages ago (Feb 19 2007) ...thanks for providing me with proof that it actually exists...

Without a full-time band, Watt recruited a wide variety of friends and fellow travelers to participate in the recording of the album. These included fellow SST Records alumni like former Black Flag vocalist Henry Rollins, members of Sonic Youth, Curt and Cris Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, former Saccharine Trust guitarist Joe Baiza, Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis, and former SST house producer Spot, as well as members of bands who had either toured with and/or been influenced by the Minutemen and fIREHOSE, including Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl (making their first recorded appearance on a record since Kurt Cobain's death), Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros drummer Stephen Perkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers's Flea, Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner, former Germs and Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear, former Pixies singer Frank Black, former Screamers and Twisted Roots keyboardist Paul Roessler (who was also Watt's brother-in-law), The Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando, The Circle Jerks's Zander Schloss, former Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Lanegan, jazz/punk guitar wizard Nels Cline and his drummer Michael Preussner, that dog's Petra and Rachel Haden and Anna Waronker and Mike D and Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys. Also participating on the album were Parliament/Funkadelic organist Bernie Worrell, Carla Bozulich of the Geraldine Fibbers and Bruce Hornsby drummer John Molo.

That was dope. SOOOO DOPE. Thanx.
I saw Mike Watt on the tour for the Ballhog album at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC. Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear were the other members of his band. As great as that was, I would throw any of them away to have seen Mike D on that tour :)
