Oasis get a lot of hate because they got more critical and commercial attention than Pulp and other bands of the era. I like Pulp and Blur, but having listened to and grown up on most of what all three bands have to offer, it seems pretty obvious to me that Oasis are the most talented. Cocker, Albarn and Coxon are all super-talented, but Noel Gallagher is, for me, a straight up genius.
