because I like this whole not paying for internet thing. Living in condos = lots o' free wireless floating around

I do it at work all the time. It depends on which building I work in though.

Technically it's wrong
Morally it's right.

My roomie did it all last semester with his girlfriend's laptop. Then he gave me a lecture about illegal downloading.

I frown upon it - but do it in emergencies.

No, what's wrong is large corporations "owning" a public good and making obscene profits on services regulated by bureaucrats who end up working for the very same corporations they formerly regulated.

if you're stupid enough to have a non secure network then you deserve for it to be hijacked

Our neighbors are this nice Korean couple that moved here a couple years ago. I'm not sure they could figure it out from the instructions.

But I guess they got it enough to set it up. Either way I'm still pissed about getting lectured by my roomie on morality.

if people are stupid enough to leave their wireless wide open then i say go for it. If you're having to hack in past encryption and stuff then no.

edit - probably should read the thread next time

if I was saavy enough, I would get a laptop, figure out who has unsecure wireless connections about the hood, and go tell them I will secure it for $25 and get paid for two minutes work

A friend of mine doesn't have a computer or internet of any kind, but sits his Wii up in his window, and gets someone's Wi-Fi signal. Been doing it for months now. He can surf the web on the Wii, and play online with his DS.

I don't think it's wrong. I do it all the time during football season when I go to the inlaws to watch football, so I can keep track of my fantasy teams on my laptop during the games.
