View Full Version : my mom wants me to move to arizona

she says it every time I talk to her. so, like once a week or two.

I'm looking on myspace to see if there are any "cool" people in phoenix, because apparently there is a "cool", "old" section according to my mom. she says, "IT'S A BIG ART CENTER!" but so far I've only found teenagers pretending to be older, dudes with tons of tattoos, and two fat guys that look sorta cool, but they're both married.

hmph. if I DO move there, my mom will help me start a business of my own and the cost of living is a lot lower. I'd be closer to most of my family too...which is good and bad. GAH. I'm not making enough money here and that would be a great opportunity, but I don't like arizona :( :(

you're still young enough - you are a spring chicken! i meant fam as in friends, you surrogate family in chicago. i wish my dad would offer to invest in me like that. then again, you have a pretty good thing already. its a question of whether you want a change or not. you still can grow a lot in chicago, syou've got some good shit going... are you happy with what you have?

k thnx. the more I think about it, the more I realize I would be just miserable. I was out there for a week around thanksgiving and it totally wiped me out. there's so much excess, everything is brand new and enormous. you have to drive and drive and drive to get everywhere and they waste so much water in the new construction! there are new grass lawns everywhere and there aren't supposed to be lawns in the desert. ugh. it all made my face hurt. I mean, sure, there have to be hippies there who might be cool or something. but I'm not much of a hippie.

maybe the mountains. but not until I'm 40.

You should make your mom listen to PEs "By the time I get to Arizona" at least ten times a day. She'll think twice about moving to a place with that much airplane traffic.

she already lives there. has for almost 3 years.

Maybe Austin TX would be a compromise.

haha, but that's where Jimmy Eat World came from...

Sarky, I don't know know if you will be moving to a part of AZ that has a college/university, but those towns are pretty good. When you consider that the majority of the Phoenix area that has transplanted there in the past 5-years are from California, it can't be too much of hickville.

I'v been to arizona, nice place..for travelling. I would'nt live there, it is a god damn desert with rattle snake and scorpion and big spider but the main thing is the heat, i could'nt stand that for a very long time and after couples of year, you look like a dry raisin..

i am not a desert girl!

I think you should remain in your current niche; you're probably comfortable and relatively happy there....or are you?

I actually have family in austin. we're not that close, but the uncle that lives there was my favorite when I was a kid. I was born out west, spent a lot of time in new mexico, the desert calls to me sometimes. however, it's so conservative that I don't think I could handle it as an adult.

Austin? Austin is supposed to be pretty happenin.'

Laid back, maybe, but not conservative. That's my understanding, but maybe I'm wrong.

Arizona is a beautiful state. 110+ degree summers is not.

They do let you carry firearms on your side. Kinda wierd, standing in the supermarket at the deli and dude next to me has a .357 strapped to his hip.

FUCK ARIDZONA, stay away from there!

I HATED living in Arizona, it's a horrible death trap of old people, meth, and depravity.

Unless you want to be leathered and hooked on meth doing girl gone wild videos, stay out of the Arid Zone.

Of course she's hot, it's 120 degrees every day, you could drink beer outside and sweat off 5 lbs... plus you know, it's all hot and shit there.

People from Chicago only move to Arizona if they're old. I know a lot of people from high school who went to college in Arizona and wound up longing to get the fuck outta dodge. The majority of them are back in Chicago now.

Being close to your family and living inexpensively is good, but being in a place where you feel a sense of belonging is better, even if it hurts your pocketbook a bit. Trust me.

Pocketbook is my favorite euphemism for vagina btw omg lol.

You don't WANT to live in Arizona. Cost of living is relative when think of how many years you'll waste being indoors. People move to Arizona because they have to. And I don't see you as a U of A or AZ state girl. You're an alternative, artsy, big city person.
