My local vid store is owned by British ex-pats so they have a great selection of the genre....I haven’t seen “Essex Boys” or “The Business” (Anyone recommend them?) I thought “The Long Good Friday” was weak….and “Twin Town” was really Scottish….what’s your pick…any I missed?
whoops....I thought I attached a poll......
Italian Job
Layer Cake
Get Carter
Sexy Beast
Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Shallow Grave
Snatch
The Krays

I f ur looking for an everyday generic british gangster film stay away from Revolver - it's nothing like snatch or lock stock but it is good if u get the concept

Layer Cake is my fav atm, but Lock Stock will always be a winner for me. Revolver is great but yeah, i had to watch it a 2nd time to properly understand it. Football Factory has it's good bits and it's bad, but overall it's pretty decent

I went in to it blind so it made a great impression, loved the alternative ending's.....Ben Kingsley in "Sexy Beast" does it for me,though.....I find it hard to beat that performance......my favorite gangster portrayal next to James Cagney in "White Heat" or Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas".....(y)

Gangster No1 is really good
Yes it is.(y)
And I thought Green Street was better than Football Factory, even if it has got the hobbit in it.
i'm hardly a connosseiur, but my favorite of the ones you've listed (and just in general from what i've seen) is lock stock
the italian job is a classic but to be honest it's kind of silly...i mean it's rated PG or G or something, isn't it? no decent crime film should have that kind of rating
snatch is like lock stock, only with too much going on at once. what was great about lock stock and two smoking barrels was that there were like 4 subplots going on at once, and they all intersected amazingly and seamlessly. snatch tried to do the same thing, only with like 6 or 7 subplots and it just didn't work out quite as well, in my opinion. not to say it's a bad movie, but it's no lock stock
apparently guy ritchie (the director of both) is dyslexic. that's gotta be worth something

Apparently no one cares this is in the wrong forum.
Since I succumb to peer pressure routinely, I agree with everything Bob says.

I think that's the charm about it really....and the setting, wardrobe, vehicles and scenery are so perpetually stylish......self preservation society!......how dare they try a remake....fiends.....

The two main characters are FRODO BAGGINS and some shit Australian imbecile who can't do a London accent to save his life, let alone act like a hard man. The entire premise of the film is super gay as well. Since when was there a war between football firms and journalists? What a load of steaming horse shit.
Add to that the fact that the Football Factory is witty, skilfully directed, and well-acted (all things which Green Street is not) and your statement just looks ridiculous. Oh well, that's your opinion I guess.

Geordie, not Australian.

Football Factory wasn't bad, I just think Danny Dyer is fucking awful as an actor.

If u want a more realistic take on british crime try Kidulthood. It's about the type of sh*tty council estate I grew up in - sort of like a british ghetto film.

Whatever, he's shit.
And Danny Dyer doesn't need to act, he's so likeable playing himself. (y)

my brother has Danny Dyer's mobile number for some reason. Last summer when we were at my parents house, we kept calling and winding him up, it was most amusing

Gangster No. 1 was pretty good, really nice continuity...as in the London underworld of 1968 looks like I would have imagined it would have/did....the movie could of done well with out the last 20 minutes.....it might have benefited by ending when Paul Bettany takes over the gang.....there were a couple of choice bit's where Bettany's facial expressions were almost identical to a young Malcolm MacDowell circa Clockwork.....nice casting

no one can be bothered reporting it to be moved. piece of advice paulo, if you like those 2, watch Layer Cake. try Revolver too, but your english might not be that great to understand it at first. i know i didn't truly understand it at first the first time i watched it.
