For lack of a better word, what's the curfew there? Bars close at 2 or 4?

That depends on the type of liquor license that the place has, blu.
I used to bounce on Rush and Division (touristy bar and club area) for a few years. Some of the places I worked were two o'clock joints. After we kicked everyone the fuck out, locked the doors, cleaned up, had a few beers and did a few lines we would all head out to one of the four o'clock joints. From what I understand, there is no difference except the cost of the license. It costs more to stay open until four, obviously.
The only problem with working at a four o'clock joint was by the time you got off work at five in the morning, the was no fucking where to go drinking. So what we would do was go down the street to a 24 hour restaurant called Tempo and eat and laugh and lie to each other about all the females that gave us phone numbers the night before. Typical guy shit. A block and a half from Tempo is a little quiet bar called Trotters. They open at seven am on Sundays. Perfect timing for a bunch of guys who have been working all night and are ready to start drinking.

some bars close at 2 a.m. during the week, but stay open til 3 on saturdays. the bars that are open til 4 during the week are open til 5 on saturdays.
5 a.m. bars typically have lines to get in if you don't get there before 2:30. and the desperation hangs in the air so thick you could cut it with a knife. I don't typically go to places like that unless I'm already having a good time with my friends and we just want to stay out longer
