Tom Cruise still is waiting for one too, right? He needs to uncrazy up if he wants to achieve that.

How embarrassing would it have been if he HADN'T won after they had his three buddies presenting? I hate when they do that, because it makes me root for an upset. :p

it's obviously wonderful that he's finally won, but it's too bad that it was for one of his lesser achievements. This isn't to say that the departed wasn't a fantastic movie, which it was, or that it was not arguably the finest movie of '06; but when you look at films like taxi driver, raging bull, goodfellas, etc., it's truly a shame it took the academy this long to get it right. congrats to him, though.(y)

thus the "nevermind!!! mission failed" bit
i already said sorry, and i meant it, so whatever..
besides if it did work, then it would have mattered, since i could have avoided having other people seeing it. i guess i just assumed that scorsese's win would have been all over TV and the Internet, so it wouldnt have been a big deal. so, sorry again, but if anyone complains after this, tough shit, i've already said my thing.

oh thanks for the apology, i honestly doubt anyone but me cares :)
i've intentionally avoided any sites i regularly read like gossip columns, imdb, etc as to avoid spoilers, but unfortunately you never know when they will pop up, and i'm so fucking bored at work today i can't avoid the whole internet.

its plastered on the main page of yahoo. I think more than a few clicks online would have resulted in you finding out anyway.

It was a fucking injustice that Peter O'Toole, again, didn't win. He doesn't look so well lately. One can't help but wonder if this was his last film...

He probably should've won for My Favorite Year.
If The Stunt Man had come out when it was supposed to, he probably could've won for that. Instead, the delay meant it came out the same year as Raging Bull. Yeah -- good luck with that.
But yay -- Marty finally won. Not the best directed movie of the year, but definitely in the top handful. (y)

Rent it, then at least you have it in case you do decide to watch it.
I was a bit disappointed that Jackie Earle Haley did not win for best supporting actor. I saw Little Miss Sunshine and Allan Arkin was excellent but I was rooting for Haley. Abigail Breslin was the cog in the "little movie that could" and she got beat out by an American Idol castoff. The supporting actor categories were a disappointment in my eyes.

aaahahha. no! no scotch mist!
i am going to rent the departed! i trust the man that is called a-z. tbh, the only reason i missed it at the cinema was because usually the site of mark wahlberg makes my face melt. but he won some acting honours for his departed role, didn't he? and you were so glowing in your 'the departed' thread that i've been convinced. okay. i'll do it. i'm keeping the burgers, though.

Don't think it's the Second Coming or anything. I don't think it's a masterpiece -- it's just a crackling good film. (y)

I'm so happy about this. He has been robbed so many times, he's definitely one of the most deserving directors of an Oscar from the last 30 years.
Marty FTW!!1
