Hey,
Did anyone else open up for the Beastie Boys? I (The Odd Couple) along with Freedom Willams (later in C & C Music Factory, but of Hard Core at the time) performed as an opening act for the Beastie Boys on May 23 & 24th 1986. Anyone else perform as an opening act out there?

Yeah, I opened one time for them by playing the Star Spangled Banner with my hand and my armpit.

you know Freedom Williams? Im great friends with his manager, Leroy! we talk all the time. Freedom is still performing the C&C hits with the help of his fiancee doing the female vocals.

I spoke to Freedom not too long ago via phone. We were discussing his website, but it's still not ready yet. Back then, Freedom was in a few groups - The Chosen Few and Hardcore. That's going back, but we did some shows together before C&C. Freedom was a really tight emcee in the day.

wow! I wasnt aware that he was in that many other groups before C&C. I know he was with "THE CREW" shortly before joining c&c. The thing that amazes me is that he opened for the beastie boys. I never releazied how many people I knew in the industry that had something to do with the beasties before. this world is getting smaller and smaller each day.

Yeah, Freedom was a tight emcee. His partners Almight Born Sincere and DJ Unique were also tight. They evolved a bit, but were all into the God's (i.e. knowledge me). I did another show with them where we opened up for Salt N Pepa and Original Concept. I knew east coast Dre from his time dj'ing with the Beasties and he walked up to me after the show and told me to not quit this, but it was my last show. One thing I must say about the Beasties, was that Adam Yauch was one of the most honest, straight forward, humble person's I've ever met. I walked away from those shows, a more focused person. It was so much more involved than all this, but when I caught up with MCA backstage on tour with RUN-DMC, I was talking with Adam and Freedom was standing right next to me. It was competitive back then and we were rival performing acts. Freedom told me that when I caught up with him, he said... this guy really knows me. It's all full circle, because I wrote lyrics for my favorite emcee of all time - T LA ROCK. If you're interested in some rare items signed by T LA & Jazzy Jay, let me know.
