I am in love with this place!!! I had a great trip getting here too. I took that tunnel that goes under the English Channel. I didn't realize that I would have to sit in my car the whole time, but it was all good. Then I stopped in Saarbrucken Germany for 2 nights to hang out. I also met up with some German friends of mine. Driving through Switzerland was amazing, that's a really beautiful country... when you are not driving through a tunnel ;).
And Italy... absolutely amazing. I am in love. They insist on over feeding me here where ever I go. I just got out of a restaurant where I got some pasta (I asked them to pick because I don't speak Italian..yet) and the lady brings out this HUGE dish. Before that she brings me out some awesome bruscetta. I had to ask for a take away bag because the food was enormous. Then when I started leaving she was like "No, you stay!" and brings out some shot of something alcoholic that tasted like lemon and also some cake a strawberries... it was amazing, she only charged for the pasta. I felt like my family was feeding me when I come home on leave. The people are beautiful, the buildings are beautiful, the scenery is beautiful... it's beautiful here. (I'm still going back to Nottingham a few times though:D )

I'm not sure if I drove past it or not. I will say that I made great time until I crossed the border into italy. I was stuck in a traffic jam until I was almost here. I am in Desenzano. It's in northern Italy, next to Lago di Garda. It's BEAUTIFUL!!

wow, you really do have a sweet spot there. Lake Garda is definitely pretty nice. try and get to Verona as often as possible. I was really taken with it when I was last there. they've got one of the three 'complete' colosseums left in the world amongst many many other things. also go for a drive up the A22 into Trentino, great landscape, loads of nice vineyards and a castle every hundred metres it seems.

I went to a friend's last night for horse steak... yes, horse steak. I had to ask twice for him to repeat it and he said it was pretty common. Then I texted my resident Italian (:) ) and she confirmed that it is pretty common. What's funny is, there is an Italian chow hall on base (for the Italian Air Force) and we usually eat lunch there. I had steak there the other day and my friend that invited me was like "what's the problem? I thought you liked it, you had it the other day at the Italian chow hall!!!":eek:

Anyway, turns out horse is actually pretty good.

I remember when I was in Germany I was dating this Cuban girl and she asked me to pick up some horse at the shop on base on my way home. I was like HORSE?!?! Are you crazy?!?!?!? Americans don't eat horse!!! No one shouldl!!! I like it though :(
