Here's a coupla snippets to accompany the "60s Northern Soul" buzz that's in circulation:

"Northern Soul refers to music and associated dance styles and fashions originating from the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester in the mid 1960's and spreading to other dancehalls and nightclubs in northern England, notably the Golden Torch in Stoke upon Trent, the Blackpool Mecca and in 1973, the famous Wigan Casino."

"A large proportion of northern soul's original audience came from the mod movement. Some mods started to embrace the freakbeat and psychedelic rock of the late 1960s, but other mods - especially those in northern England - stuck to the original mod soundtrack of soul and blue beat. Some transformed into what would eventually be known as skinheads, and others formed the basis of the northern soul scene."

hmmmmm, "freakbeat" you say? now that you mention it, i do know of this trio can can freak a fuckin' beat like that shit was in a blender.

glad to see psychadelic rock in there. i like it when the bboys get a little misty.

...mmmmmmmm tasty morsels.(y)

thanks for that McDuff, good work.. i lazily searched a bit for 60's northern soul and didn't come up with that definition.. i wonder if someone can name any bands or songs that would really define it.. sounds like it's really all over the place, huh?

Here's a link to a more in-depth look at Northern Soul. The definition and description reveal quite a bit, including history, what it sounded like, and notable bands and labels as that were involved.

"If you check my pulse my beat's Skull Snaps..." - I'm sure we all recognize that one.:)

I mean, it sounds good when these people do it.

As I think about it, the Northern Soul thing doesn't really sound spy-ish, to me. It sounds like a throwback. I wonder if there's going to be a little diversity?

More. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAj2PCdfW4Q) They're good sounds, no doubt.
