View Full Version : The 51 Best Magazines Ever

This is a pretty neat list. What I like is that they give era-specific times for the magazine (e.g. Rolling Stone circa 1967-76), because not every magazine is relevant for its entire tenure.

I bought Loaded the other day, it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. I remember reading my brother's copies in the mid-late nineties and it was the best thing I'd ever read, now it's shit and there's hardly any tits.

I was just thinking the same thing when I read that list. Iy should be called loaded 'lite'. I think that whole culture is now a cartoon version of itself.
The tits actually write it now (n)

That's because James Brown and Martin Deeson both left.

Playboy but not Playgirl? Thanks much, male chauvinistic pig who wrote this.

That's a pretty good list.
I've never heard of Colors before, though.
Tiger Beat, though!? Come on.
They also should've included The Record, the magazine Dave Marsh ran until it folded. Really smart, good interviews, and the layout was really cool: you could basically fold the thing in quarters at any point and keep reading, which made this newspaper-sized magazine pretty handy.

WHAT ABOUT TROUSER PRESS?!
Sassy was there, that was a good magazine for awhile. although I think they single-handedly started the tie-dyed baby tee craze.

I'm missing Thrasher, Big Brother, Cracked, Slap, Maximum RnR (!!!), Vice, Lodown and Giant Robot. Oh, and Crack Whores. That's a good read! (y)

i was never particularly mad on skateboarding, but Big Brother was great. very funny.
And i struggle to believe that at any stage in history "The Face" was anything more than glossy toilet paper.

Yeah, I've got it, it sucks. Only good thing about it was the free Peanut Kit Kat Chunky which I forgot about till I woke up with a life-endangering hangover/comedown the following morning/afternoon. The old loaded was sooo much better. Like the interviews would be all edgy and have women sitting on beds smoking fags looking moody and shit. Now it's just like a bigger, less action-packed version of Nuts or Zoo. (n)
