Yeah, that was from the movie. The music is limp, the backing vocals are all Vocodered, and the guy just speaks with a leer all the way through. And badly.
The Tina Turner version of "Help!" was on the Private Dancer CD (not the LP or cassette). It's slowed down so it's more of a ballad, which was how John wanted to do it in the first place. It turns it into a showstopper, but not in a bad way.

I like Cheap Tricks "Magical Mystery Tour" cover, it captures the spirit of the Beatles nicely with a rave up Cheap Trick style.
I have a CD somewhere by the band "Big Daddy" who did the whole Sgt. Peppers album in a 50's and early 60's doo wop rock-a-billy signature. It's all novelty, but good novelty.
As far as bad the Chipmunks put out a Beatles cover album that will make you do a Van Gogh.
And that Elton John Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds really put the kibosh on a brilliant career. Hard to believe it's the same dude who co-wrote Honky Cat.

don't know if this counts, but Prince's solo for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at George Harrison's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is face melting. check it out for yourself. you may want to fast forward a bit, though it's a touching performance, with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George's son, and some other cats:

wicked performance. this is why he' such a great entertainer.

Two really good ones that i've heard have been Ray Charles doing Eleanor Rigby, and then Thrice doing the same song. Both really different than the original and both make it their own.
Half of the I am Sam Soundtrack blows.... and most of the Across The UNiverse Soundtrack.
