I found this to be fairly spot on. It seems like they're missing something but I can't quite put my finger on it. There is no mention of "corporate branding" via advertising, which is a two way street basically.

So here they are via EARVOLUTION (http://www.earvolution.com/2007/03/top-10-corporate-moments-in-rock.asp).

Yeah, my heart sunk while reading it. :(

Though I do like the "Special Edition" stuff. I'm a sucker, I admit. :o

Great article, it was kind of sad to read about some of the dumb things the record labels have done though.

Those are great.

Geffen suing Neil Young is one of my favorite rock news stories. A lot of labels and ex labels sued recording artists around that time. It was a sign of the trouble to come. There were still some music critics with balls back then who complained about record company abuses.

When it comes to corporate sponsorship, the watershed moment for me was when Jovan sponsored the Rolling Stones. I knew that Mick was a heartless hack, but once a perfume company sponsored a band that already had the biggest tour and didn't need the extra money, you knew that bands were going to stoop to any level in the future.
