Hello,
I represent a brazilian Techno label (340M/s) and one of our producers has made a Techno rmx with one of the acappellas avaiable on this website.
As we distribute our music on websites such as juno.co.uk and www.beatport.com I'd like to know if it is legal to put up the track he made for sale since the acappellas are avaiable for free and no other notice is given as far as legality of using them or not, can anybody clarify this for me?
Thanks in advance,
Brizio

This is a copy of an e-mail I sent to someone who asked me about this before....

So far as we know the Beastie Boys are ok with you posting and hosting your remixes anywhere you want, but selling them as far as I know is not OK.
If you're making money from the remixes you could possibly get into hot water. Although I've seen Beastie Boys remix cd's on e-bay and amazon.com. A lot also depends on any samples you might use in your mixes. It kinda depends, Dj-BC got into trouble for his Beatles/Beastie boys remixes http://www.djbc.net/beastles/ from the record company that controls the Beatles music now, and no longer hosts' it on his site. Although you can still find it here http://www.boingboing.net/2006/02/12/new_album_of_beatles.html
The whole remix culture is still in kind of a grey area, there have been some big cases involving content owners being real pissy about their samples being used.
I would say that if you are being paid to allow someone to download, you might get into trouble.
Some more information about it can be found here.

I know this is not a yes or no answer, but I don't really think there is a yes or no answer yet. I hope this helps.

It helped, I dont think its worth the risk to sell, although it doesn't make sense to put online your acappellas if people are not allowed to do whatever they want with it, and that includes selling it...
Thanks,

I forgot who it was:confused: , but I remember seeing their remixes on soundclick.com for 75 cents or a dollar(n) ...But at the same time, they were available for free on Beastiemixes....What's up with that? I wonder if people were actually dumb enough to pay for them...even tho you can get the same mix on Beastiemixes for free....I got to look into who that was...

I can't find who it was, but just incase your tired of making money off the Beastie Boys....
1.Click "Band Administration"
2.Click "Edit"
3.Click "Batch Song settings"
4.Click "Make All Songs Available As"
5.Click "Free MP3" download..
This will make ALL songs free......
although it doesn't make sense to put online your acappellas if people are not allowed to do whatever they want with it, and that includes selling it...
I think they were put up more for people like me and many others here. People who had no knowledge of making beats/remixes and found acapellas like this a great aid, not for people to make money off them.
