as all the beastie boys fans should know from the topic, I'll be talking about the song Do It from Ill Communication.
am I really the only one who thinks this song is, if not the best, at least one of the very best beastie boys' choons? I just don't get it how they managed to make this song sound like it sounds now...
the basic groove is just amazing. the song flows like nothing else. it has the tons-of-times-used two hit bassline, which pretty much steals the whole show here. on the side there's this massive guitar lick, which is also based on two hits. so the song goes a bit like this: bass hit - bass hit - guitar hit - guitar hit - etc. there's nothing else to it! yet somehow this song captivates my heart.
the drums are on a more minor side, but they deliver the message quite well. what I don't really like though is the supposed chorus, where you got the vocal phrase "do it". somehow they blew that part because the bass gets very irritating during that part. the ending on the other hand is just pure silly, which I tend to like.
a lot of my friends really like BB, not just the "hit" songs but all the older material and they even own them cds. but still nobody has known this one song when I've played it for others. "hey, what's that song? it's pretty cool" <- those are the ordinary comments I've gotten from people. although the artist has come pretty obvious once the vocals kick in. ah, speaking of vocals, I really like the ones this song has. including one of my favourite lines, which you can spot on the topic of this thread.
oh well, that's my two cents on this more or less useless ramble over a song. the word is free!
