I know we've talked about smoking on the board, but I wanted to know percentages because I'm curious. So, which category do you fall under? I'm a non-smoker. Only had one cigarette in my life and I didn't like it.

i don't mind the smell of cigarettes, but i don't really do it myself. i used to smoke on the weekends at college but i never really got addicted.

although there are times now when i feel like i really want a cigarette, i never feel like i need one

my old roommate smoked, listening to him cough up a lung every morning is probably the biggest anti-smoking advertisement you could ask for

actually my grandmother dying of lung cancer was probably a bigger advertisement but i've mostly repressed that time period of my life, the coughing will do for now

I smoke maybe a pack a week or less. my friend says that's called a "chipper".

meh. I should quit altogether. I haven't had one in two days, and I feel like one right about now. oops.

I've never smoked anything in my life.

On grade eight camp, when the cool kids offered me one, I said "there's nothing cool about drugs" before feeling suitably embarassed. Then when my sister offered me one, I said I already smoked on grade eight camp.

Those are the only times cigarettes have been offered to me. My resolve is weakening, who knows how much longer I can hold out.

i have been known to smoke a bit, over the years. But... since my neighbour died (who incidentally was also a friend, not just hte person living next door) quite suddenly at the beginning of this year from oesophogeal cancer i can barely bear to look at a cigarette, let alone pick it up and toke on it.

i just saw her son this morning... only 18. :(

i really detest smoking now. i can't wait until the total smoking ban in july so i can enjoy a meal out and not have to inhale smoke while i'm trying to taste the food.

i've smoked ever since i moved out of home. i guess it was bound to happen coz pretty much all my friends smoke. but sometimes i just have lozenges during the drink and smoke when i go out. depends how stressed i am i guess. i do enjoy it tho, and i'll prolly quit soon more to save money than because of my health

I smoked weed for about 6 months quite heavily with tobacco in it before I started smoking cigarettes. Funny story actually. I decided to quit the weed but I couldn't deal without anything to smoke, so I started on cigarettes. About a month later, after I'd picked up a 10-a-day habit, I got back on the weed in a big way. Now I've been smoking for about 4 years and am on 20 a day. Only smoke weed about once every 2 or 3 weeks now though so I'm on the road to recovery. (y)

i promised my grandad when i was 8 years old or something that i would never touch a cigarette and i keep my promises. dorky but true.

not that i have had any desire to smoke anyway. smoking makes you, like, die. and smell. and be poor. no thanks!

I will smoke all night long if I'm drunk and only if someone offers me their cigarettes or if one of my buddies is smoking and has 'em out... but otherwise I don't touch the damn things.

I'm going with non-smoker.

Cigarettes are for chumps. Seriously they're so disgusting I can't imagine why anyone would pick one up. I think I've smoked two in my entire life, on my 18th birthday for shits and giggles.

I also don't get why people overseas put tobacco in their weed. We don't do that in Canada. Can someone explain this to me please?

I don't understand people who smoke only when they drink. Like, my first and only cigarette, I hacked and coughed and it burned my lungs, so I never did it again. Don't you have to get used to cigarettes before you're an actual smoker? Like you have to kill off all the cilia in your lungs, and then you can do it all you want? That's why I never understood how casual smokers could be, well, casual smokers. If they have lungs that were still healthy and working, how is it not painful to smoke?

i don't know why people put tobacco in their weed. to make it last longer, i guess? my boyfriend smokes buckets, ugh, and he always adds tobacco. sometimes he has pure tobacco buckets! that's like having 10 cigarettes all in one breath! okay, perhaps not, but still, for someone who doesn't 'smoke cigarettes' that is still mighty unhealthy.

i have only taken a couple of buckets and dear sweet jesus, it burnt my chest like fiyah. it sticks to the back of your throat for ages. i had to gargle with, like, a tall glass of milk. not nice. no thanks!

It's not exactly rocket science. I bummed for smokes for almost 3 years on parties before I bought my first own pack.
And we pay too much or wanna save some so we only do blunts on special occassions. Like after washing the dishes or taking out the trash....

The only thing I have ever smoked was a cigar when I was 18. I told myself I will smoke 1 a year on occasion just for the hell of it. Of course I never did last year and I probably wont this year lol. I have never had an urge to want to smoke weed or even cigarettes and I don't plan too.

Yeah it is pretty weird. I've become a weekend smoker for some reason. I secretly smoked at home first when I was in my 'bad period' and got over the fact that it made me feel sick and that it burned. It also got me light headed, which is kinda nice. Then I got offered a cig at a party and then some colleagues saw it and thought it was funny and started offering me cigs...
Anyhoo, now I just smoke at parties and only about 4 or 5 an evening. It doesn't hurt my throat anymore, but still makes me a wee bit woozy.
I know it might be bad or stupid, but I'm not doing this out of addiction. As soon as I start craving a cigarette I'll stop immediatly.

actually my grandmother dying of lung cancer was probably a bigger advertisement

The lady that lived downstairs from me when I was a kid died of lung cancer in her forties. That probably had a big impact on me. Also, my mother gave me a whole bunch of info on smoking when I was an adolescent and the reverse psychology'd my stuborn streak. She was all like "But you'll probably try smoking someday just out of curiosity." and I was all like "NO! NEVER!" And I really wanted to win the argument.

They did it to be cool

this is my theory on why everyone takes up smoking, but i'm yet to force a smoker to admit to it.

so far the only answer i've gotten from a smoker is "i was stressed so i decided to take up smoking".

i was a chain smoker from the age of 16-18. i would smoke in excess of 40 a day. it was something that i took to very well. my father was a smoker as well. my parents didn't stop me at all. then i had pnuemonia and i had to give up. i've had one now and then after that. but now when i smell the stench of cigarette smoke on other people i'm repulsed that i was once one of them. it is fucking disgusting folks. girls, it will make boys not like you.

I sometimes miss smoking. I stopped the day it dawned on me that I might be pregnant, so it's been well over a year and a half now. And tbh I can't stand it now, like, if I am at the bus stop and someone is smoking, I have to move, I really hate it. I have zero desire to start again, and I am thrilled that the pubs will be smoke-free from later this year. But, paradoxically, I really do occasionally miss the act of smoking - pulling the cigarette out of the pack, the scratch and hiss of the lighter, that first drag in. Watching a tentacle of smoke drift up annd twist and turn in a shaft of sunlight through the window. It's sexy. It is. That's the problem with a lot of anti-smoking 'education', they tell kids it's not cool and it's not sexy. But kids aren't stupid, they know that's a lie.

I dunno, I never found it sexy. Mostly because the womens who smoked eventually started growing facial hair. That was really gross.

I had a group of tight-knit friends in high school who I hung out with and I was the ONLY non-smoker out of like, 15 of them. I never had the urge to smoke, I found their habit really gross. And everytime I hung out with them, I'd come home absolutely reeking of cigarettes. When I go to bars in Baltimore it's the same thing now, night of dancing and drinking and...smelling like smoke for 2 days. I have to wash my clothes to get the stink out, and my hair takes 2 days of washing to get out the smoke smell. If that wasn't motivation, I don't know what is. I like smelling like fruit and flowers, not like smoke.

It's sad, but that's the ultimate reason why I stopped hanging out with them. That, and they started doing harder drugs. I was just like...this isn't an environment I want to be in. Which is a huge shame, because they were good peoples. It was just terrible for my well-being.

thats one of the main reasons why i dont smoke cause i would be worried that i couldnt stop smoking when i get preggies or that i smoke without knowing that im preggies and i wouldnt want to smoke near my kids, they would be already fucked up enough with a mum like me

i kinda find smoking guys hot though

2 months without a smoke. I kind of messed up while shitfaced a few days ago by smoking one but after the third drag I put it out and kicked my own ass.

I'd like to enourage people to quit if they smoke. They'd feel much much better.

(i think) smoking is moronic and totally unsexy. whether or not you believe it's sexy is just a matter of personal opinion.
