Ex olympic gold medalist in the 400m Hurdles, Sally Gunnell is visiting my place of work today for a breast cancer charity.

How random (!)

Very nice. I have never heard of her. I suspect that most olympic gold medalists wear their medal or carry it around like a kid takes a turtle to show and tell. I had a friend that went to West Virginia University. He told me that James Jett a former football player and olympic relay gold medalist would wear his gold medal while walking around campus and drinking in bars.

I just went to her site.....http://www.sallygunnell.com/

She now makes her living schluping around with her medal giving inspirational talks. She is fast so now she can motivate others to succeed. I am sure by tomorrow you will be able to go to the xerox machine and back to your desk in 2.2 seconds.

Motivational speakers and consultants are the snake oil salesmen of the new millenium. The sad part is that companies pay them serious cash to spread their propaganda.

joe simpson (http://www.noordinaryjoe.co.uk/) is a motivational speaker now. he can motivate me any day he likes.

is it just something over the hill athletes/people with one massive traumatic story to tell do nowadays? can you imagine being a professional motivational speaker? i always liked people who described themselves as cultural commentators on the tv. mum, when i grow up, i want to be a cultural commentator. lolz. who the fuck isn't a cultural commentator?

Go up to her and go "Hey Sally, im a big fan of RACEYA!!!!" Then leg-it down the corridor. When you get to the bottom start walking around chanting "EASY! EASY! EASY!" then demand her medals.

I made her a foamboard hurdle and found a really embarrassing photo of her which she signed 'piss off mark and rob love sally gunnell'.

Made my day!

Did she inspire you to whip out reports at warp speed?

When I worked at the local NBC affiliate Bob Denver (Gilligan) visited the noon show. After his appearance they had snacks in the green room and he gave some words of advice. The same thing happened when Richard Simmons visited. I could not help but laugh in my inner-being when these men were telling me that anything in life is possible. I now wear tight red short shorts and a sailor hat.

Other notable guests---Earl Campbell (former football player and victim of manic depression) & Bert and Ernie (gay rights)

I have photos of me with all these guests but I still can't find my photo with Gilligan. It is somewhere in my photo books.

She opened the Chase Corporate Challenge last time I did it.

And then I saw her at the airport about 2 months later

I went to bathstore on Saturday but I am refusing to pay £300 for a cabinet and another £300 for a vanity unit!! Rip off!! So I am going to pick stuff from a catalogue and my brother knows someone in the trade so I'll get it at cost price hopefully.

Other than that, no progress made.:p

Takes a bow.
If it were not for the inspiration of Sally Gunnell and my gold pinky finger I would not have been able to type the 2 lls in Sally's first & last name.

When I was doing a course for work last summer and living at the Radisson SAS hotel at Stansted Airport, I sat next to Sally Gunnell and Ruby Wax at breakfast one morning. It was a bit surreal really, as all these semi-famous people were in the restaurant having breakfast together. One morning while waiting for the lift I was telling my mate Nick about how I'd seen Suzy Perry at reception and how gorgeous she was in the flesh, the lift doors open and the only space in there was standing right next to Suzy. Nick and I just stood there like a pair of teenagers grinning to each other.

Good times(y)

i am confused as to why you had a picture of her 'lying around'. did you actually purchase it? or did you print it off from tinterwebs?

i have a picture of a drowning rabbit (an illustration, moreover, not, like, a real bunny, which would be sick) as my desktop. people always ask "er, why?" and i say "BECAUSE IT'S HOW I FEEL INSIDE".

on my noticeboard i have a cartoon cut-out from the times or the independent, i forget, of someone being tortured-chamber-lowered into a pit (the IT department) and another shouting "DON'T FORGET TO SCREAM IN COMIC SANS!" so the guy is going "AAARGH!" in comic sans. it is funny in my office. not irl.

also i have a post it note from my boss with a miniature time out bar wrapper stuck to it saying "i owe you" to remind her of her constant chocolate non-replacement.

I have a collection of dead wasps, and a very large rubber band ball on my desk at work. By "my" I mean, I am often found near it.

So you got internet then, camo?

when we found out that she was visiting, we printed out a few images for her to sign. That being one of them.

nah I found that my web filter doesn't stretch to blocking flickr. Hence my recent attack on the arts thread in sure shots. I can only view flickr images too.

I like the fact that Gunnell smoked liked a chimney throughout her athletic career. There's a great clip from the Olympics with her puffing away after a race.
