...but of what I've heard, I actually really like it! Granted, besides "3 Feet High And Rising", I've only heard "De La Soul Is Dead" and "Buhloone Mind State," but I'm digging it.
I know their debut is impossible to top, but there's no slouching going on here.

According to them, it's the exact opposite. Pos' and Dave have dissed their early work on countless occasions...even on wax.
I for one enjoy all their releases....they don't make bad albums if you ask me.

buhloone mindstate is easily their best... im not huge on 3 feet high and rising. stakes is high has their best songs, but unfortunately, also their worst. i am completely sick of people knocking art official intelligence: mosiac thump. its a great comback album, is really consistent, has appropriate, worthwhile guest spots, and is just plain fun to listen to.

Is that the one with OOOOOH and the Phife and Black Thought interludes? That album was really good. Bionix is the only one I can't really get into. .

word. i wouldn't rank 3 feet in even my top three favorite De La albums. it was a milestone for it's day, but definitely not their best record by a longshot. i'm a big fan of de las dead and buhloone, but haven't picked up stakes is high yet.
flash-forward, they kinda lost me on grind date with all that r&b type production, though thats simply cause of my taste, not that it wasnt quality for what it was.

ive said it before but ill say it again, "3 feet high and rising" should definitely be filed under "over-rated". No where near as good as people say, and alot of that has to do with those god-damn skits.

Exactly. The AOI series (c'mon guys...where's part 3? "on some DJ shit") gets far too much heat than it deserves. Neither installment was perfect, but they were both quite solid.
And yeah...."Ooh" feat. Red Man is on Mosaic Thump. It happens to be my favorite De La song...

i think it gets most of its props because of the overall production techniques, not just the skits. the super-heavy sampling, the sampling of children's records, new subject matter, conscious but with a sense of humor, psychadelic, etc. i think it deserves its respect, but maintain that they went on to perfect what they started there into even better records.

The "Impossible Mission" mixtape that came out last year is probably the best since the Prince Paul days if you ask me. I love that album.

Like I said...they don't make bad albums per se...but Stakes was, in my opinion, their weakest. That being said...it's solid.
What I'm getting at is even at their worst, they're better than most.

They're not talked up the same way 3FH&R is. And they did get backlash for stopping the DAISY thing.

ditto. i skip a lot of '3 feets' songs.
