Interesting

Long time fans that I know are saying that Yauch had said prior to Hello Nasty that he was looking to not do vocals on HN. I guess 10 years later, this is it.

Is this a one time instrumental show where they will be playing all their instrumentals over the course of their career? Or is this confirmation that the new album has no vocals?

If the former.....phew.

If the latter....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Once again, there is a difference between instruments and instrumentals.

Instruments? Hell yes.

Instrumentals (entirely)? Hell no.

Here's my 2 cents. If the new album is all instrumental, or mostly instrumental, and they have a great first single.. the mainstream will realize what we've all known for years... That they can play, and play good, and are serious about what they do.. now.. this will brace the world for the NEXT album that will be all over the place and the the whole world will say, "WOW, Beastie Boys truly is one of the best bands ever!" You haven't been to a live concert where they play instruments, have you?

I doubt they can even read/write music. They probably just recorded jam sessions and replicated the parts they liked into separate songs.

Man...in the 90's people were all about them playing instruments. I am suprised at the negativity towards them doing this. The coolest thing about the Beastie Boys is that you never know what to expect from them, other than quality entertainment.

when i saw them live they did instrumentals and i had no problem with it i actually liked it not as much as the rap or rock songs but i definitly didn't get bored at all if felt really nice to just groove out n shit, but then again they only performed 2-3 instrumentals in the show i went to, i probally would get a little tired if the whole show was them jamming & not sayin much

I had a feeling it was going to be instrumental.
The last album was a shock to me because of the lack of instrumentation played by the beasties. I did not expect a drum machine record....the previous three records in the 90's incorporated both instruments and electronics together....Anyways I'm happy its going to be an instrumental album, but if theres vocals on a few songs well then thats good too. if your man left the joint in the whip then tell him go get it.

i think tt5b was alot like loi
and hn was alot like pb.
so i'm hoping the new album will sound like cyh or ic.
but i'm getting the feeling its gonna sound like the in sound from way out.

Yeah I mentioned in this in the actual gig thread. The thing is, songs like Somethings Gotta Give and Gratitude could easily be played, i/e/ songs with vocals, so new tunes could be in a similar vein.

I think everyone needs to find out more. As I've put though, it begs the interesting question about the boys rapping on the new one. But I mean it could just be there's a bunch of new instrumentals, which along with other past efforts, can form into a nice show. It's something different. Doesn't necessarily mean that it's a sign of exactly where they are heading.

Definitely interesting though.

agreed, they aren't great, they aren't bad, they're good enough to throw in 2 or maybe 3 songs every show, but not a full scale concert i wouldn't say, it's gonna get tired, their vocals aren't remotely good enough either to do many cover songs as well

i cannot wait for this!!

i love all the instrumental stuff they do. its cool that can actually realy play instruments as well. a lot of the staright hip hop stuff they do is them sampling themselves playing. the wee instrumentals are cool when they do it live but always thought they kind sat weirdly next to the rest of their tunes. the insterlude bit they did on the pageant tour was good though

I hold it down like a holy crown.

If they do an all instrumental album then they are idiots. In my opinion, even if they're getting a bit tired of hip-hop (or too old) the best thing they could do at this stage is make a mix of all their different styles, like CYH, IC and Hello Nasty were.

Yeah, it's worth remembering also that a lot of the stuff that went into Paul's Boutique was originally instrumental stuff developed by the Dust Brothers including Shake Your Rump etc. So just because the new stuff is likely to be all instrumental it doesn't mean it's going to sound a particular way.

this is total b.s. they can surely do a full instrumental show...
