View Full Version : i'm surprised no one has posted yet about the u.s. attorney firings
this (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=2954988&page=1) is the latest scandal (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/terry-curtis-fox/why-the-us-attorney-scand_b_43525.html) to emerge from the bush white house. republican senator john sununu has called for attorney-general gonzales to resign for the role he has played, with other republicans vehemently opposed to what has transpired, and the actions and motivations of rove and gonzales. senator leahy is going to supeona karl rove to testify before the senate judiciary committee, as he is the big, fat crook behind all of this.

Technically it's not illegal, but the Bush administration mishaps in just one week (Walter Reed, attorneys, Scooter Libby conviction) are more than some previous administration's entire TERMS put together.

Don't forget Halliburton moving to Dubai. (What kind of extradition treaty does the US have with Dubai?) Just another week of politics FUBAR in the USA.
We have become conditioned to accept this treatment from our elected officials, though I must say the Impeach Bush (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=77220) movement has 11 BBMB members ready to go! :)
As far as "Technically it's not illegal" sure, but it is unprecedented,
Five in 25 years (across three administrations) vs five in 25 days (or so).
New.
There's also the unprecedented power to appoint replacements w/out Senate approval.
That's New, Too.
I am pretty sure the Bush purges are different (at the very least) insofar as they occurred without Congressional confirmation thanks to Spector's last-minute addition to the USA Patriot Act. Thanks Arlen! (http://www.slate.com/id/2161260)
Funny mitigating factor; Gonzales (http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MGNiYzY3ZmZmNjFhODg4NzQ5NGEzNGFmNDAxM2RmOTM=)

I can't say anything much. I hope that Gonzalez has to resign though.

Hey people who voted for Bush -
*clears throat*
TOLD YOU SO. You may not have believed me then, but when I said that Bush and his cronies were corrupt and would just shit all over America I knew what I was talking about. It's sad though, because it was a train-wreck waiting to happen and so many freakin' Americans trusted him and just didn't see how terrible this administration was. Why? I have no idea.
I hope Gonzalez pulls a Rumsfeld, and soon.

Fucking Rove! (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/16/washington/16attorneys.html?ex=1331697600&en=72c35db478a9eae7&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss)
Mr. Rove, speaking at Troy University in Alabama on Thursday, again defended the administration’s handling of the dismissals, saying it was entirely appropriate for the Justice Department to selectively remove any who were not performing or following department policies.
“This to my mind is a lot of politics, and I understand that’s what Congress has the right to play around with, and they’re going to do it,” he said.
WOW!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/14/AR2007031400447_pf.html
President Bush today defended Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales' firing of eight U.S. attorneys last year but said "mistakes were made" in how Justice Department officials explained the dismissals to Congress.
"What Al did . . . and what the Justice Department did was appropriate," Bush said at a news conference in Mérida, Mexico, where his six-day Latin American tour ended today. "U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president. In other words, they're appointed by the president. They can be removed by the president. What was mishandled was the explanation of the case - the cases - to the Congress."
Bush said he has confidence in Gonzales.
Some congressional Democrats have been calling for Gonzales' resignation since the Justice Department released e-mails and other documents yesterday showing that, despite months of administration statements to the contrary, the eight prosecutors were fired after being rated for their political loyality.
Bush, standing alongside Mexican President Felipe Calderón, said politics played no role in the firings.
"I've heard those allegations about, you know, political decision-making," Bush said. "It's not true."
Look who just made himself a "fact witness." Let's ask Geedubya: how do you know it's not true, sport? Raise your right hand...
yeah, it's not illegal. however what is illegal is lying under oath, which gonzales did when he previously testified about this in january. i just can't get over how these clowns bungle everything, and are so incompetent. what's truly despicable though is how the bush administration has thrown harriet miers under the proverbial bus, blaming her for all of this, when she previously stated that bush was the greatest governor ever. so much for the 'bush team'.

Good point. Whatever the case, Gonzales needs to go, Rumsfeld-style.

Bush said he will not allow Rove and the others to testify under oath because it would damage their ability to give the president "candid advice." (http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/21/us.attorneys.firings/index.html)
The fuck? I love how they come up with catch phrases that sound official but are poorly constructed euphemisms that pretty much say "Um, don't ask."
Like the "AL QAEDA DETERMINED TO ATTACK INSIDE THE UNITED STATES" memo was just "historical in nature" to Condi Rice.
Shut up. We all know you're a bunch of lying assholes, don't try and fool the public because only 35% of people swallow your bullshit anymore.

From CNN:
A House subcommittee voted today to authorize subpoenas for President Bush's key adviser, Karl Rove, and other top White House aides, in the probe of ousted U.S. attorneys.

Critics of the prosecutor firings - including some of the prosecutors themselves - say they were removed for investigating Republican officials.
Again the politicization of this whole mess is flatly denied all the way up the ladder, with absolutely no basis at all. And now we have a congress which appears to be ready to be the *check* in our system.
What in the hell took so long? These guys have been caught in so many lies, so many false statements, and so many scandals. They are responsible for thousands upon thousands of lives, have an economy which is walking a tightrope, completely fucked up the medicare system, tried to get OUR social security money, etc.etc. (could literally write a decent size book by now)
I guess my point is, I want this whole crew held accountable on a level in which they have effected countless people on this planet.
I mean you see and hear and read this stuff, and it kind of makes you dizzy.

yeah it's pretty ridiculous. And there's nothing to really add I suppose, other than those few who still support this administration (which, is a little hard to believe anyone does regardless) really needs to re-examine.
It makes this administration look really, really bad (as if they needed any help with that).
What a bunch of shit.
