You'd think people would be happy they are actually going to put something out in the next 2-3 years insted of complaining about the content...

you mean way back when?

I just remember lots of posts about people wanting an instrumental album.

Then again, lots of people also wanted a hardcore album.

Hearing that it was an all hip hop album was the best news I could have gotten back in the day.

Look, the bottom line is that certain people are going to want certain things, and no matter what an artist does they are going to alienate a portion of their fans, whether it be a large portion or a small one. Thats just the way it is. As a fan, my favorite Beastie Boys album is Check Your Head, so I have no problem with an album that mixes certain types of elements. But the core of any Beastie Boys album (whether they do it consciously or not) is hip hop. So I feel that a full length feature LP from them without any hip hop, or without any vocals at all for that matter is a gigantic let down. It'd be like The Roots making an album with no live instruments, or DJ Shadow making an album with no samples. Thats what brought them to the dance, and thats what made people become fans of them.

My view of music has always been that the best artists are the ones that are artists, not fan pleasing music machines. I'd rather they do what they want than try to please us. The music would suffer if they tried too hard to keep us happy all the time. I'm personally happy with anything, there are very few Beastie Boys songs I don't like... in fact, I'm pretty sure I can only think of 3 that I can't sit through and enjoy every time. Girls, Netty's Girl, and Party's Getting Rough. Even those songs aren't that bad.

How can you say that with out hearing it? They have made some incredible music with instruments.

Again, the problem with an instrumental album is that they, one of the greatest lyrical groups in music, wouldn't be making lyrics.

The only problem would be if there are no instruments on the next album, like TT5B pretty much.

to be quite honest, when i heard TT5B was all hip-hop I felt a little let down. not that I'm the majority by any means, but there are plenty of fans that value them for their instrumentated work just as much if not more than their strictly lyrical works. im just sick of people complaining about an instrumental album, i mean, get over it already.

all due respect, hood, with a bad attitude like that you're simply burying the project before you even give it a chance. once you accept the fact that there's no hip-hop (if that's in fact the case), maybe you can take a new instrumental album for what it is and appreciate it more. i don't think anyone is too hyped with the possibility that it could be strictly instrumental, even the instrumental heads are gaga for their hip-hop, but i'm not about to discredit the fact that it's still some new material from the boys and they've yet to disappoint in the past. i'd sooner have this than another TT5B, that I know for sure, but on the other hand i still wouldn't be all that unhappy if it was another TT5B.

some of you are totally trippin here about this instumental thing!!! Don't you know that Check Your Head was supposed to be an all instrumental album when they first started it!

Look at what they have given us since then!

Lets say that this is an all instrumental album (which I highly doubt it will be) They will still be going on tour (GREAT FOR US) and you know that the concerts won't be all instrumental!

I'm a fan of their hiphop more than anything else.

But I actually hope they would do a really cool intrumental-only tour. They would have to promote it as such so that people would know what to expect.

They could play smaller, cozier ballrooms and theater type places. Places with seats where you sit down for an evening and watch the show. Taking requests from the audience, have an intermission, sipping a cocktail. A whole different vibe.

That would be cool! They could do that like they done the quasar thing in 97.

As a fan, I want to see concerts with rap, hardcore and instrumentals cause they are sooooooooo verrrrr-saaa - tileeeeeee!

All I'd say to the serious doubters is give them a chance. The least they deserve really. And also wait before shit's actually announced before going mad, it's one instrumental show. They could have done that any time in the last 15 years. And whatever they do, I'm only going to know if I'm not a fan of it when it's actually happened.

this would be an ill tour. more personal venues, lounges. very cool.
