WHO SAW THE BOYS Perform AS quasar?

Yo, so I was checking out youtube and there are some tight videos of the Beastie Boys performing in the mid-nineties as QUASAR, wondering what people remember about this time in their performance career. What if they started doing hardcore shows again? Shit would be crazy, I'd go check it out, it'd prob be in smaller venues too:D

I was lucky enough to see them as Quasar at Coney Island High on Thanksgiving eve in Manhattan 94 or 95. My friend "paged" me and when I called him back from a pay phone, I didn't believe him. I remember people hearing me on the phone saying "the Beastie Boys are playing Coney Island High ..... shut up!" low and behold I saw half of them start heading over to the club with me....it was pretty funny. If memory serves, I also saw Joey Ramone there, I just can't remember if it was inside or outside the club.

Since it was an all instrument/hardcore show, what was the reaction of the crowd? Were folks waiting for the hiphop? How big of a club is this?

On a side note I have a video tape (hopefully I still have it) of their performance when they played in Tahoe as a suprise for (i thinkn) boarding for breast cancer in the 95-96 time frame. The crow seemed pretty small and mello. But obviously into it. When it is mid day in the snow and there is not confinement the energy is a little bit different. It would have killed to see that show.

They were in DEVO outfits as well I believe for that show.

A good girl friend of mine got to see them when they performed in Tahoe. She said the show was very informal (as far as security went) and she and her friend got pulled up on stage for the entire show. She has pictures and swears she is going scan them into her computer one of these days. At the end of the show, Horovitz (who is her favorite -she even has an Adrock tattoo) came up to her and gave her a hug. She handed her camera to someone to take a pic of them and when she got the film developed, they only had taken a pic of Horovitz.

Great photos...I have a video from that performance that I got from Campblen. There is at least one other video version out there too. The night before Quasar played South Lake Tahoe, they played at a guy named Darren's place...a house party. Back then I used to write back and forth with Jazz...and he said that show was one of the best. He also said it was recorded by a couple of people in the audience...but as far as I know the tape never surfaced.
