What kind of stuff do you like?

I mean, there are museums (art, tech, quilts), bars (house, karoke, jazz, blues), tons of restaurants, a couple of good record stores...

Are you going to have a rental car? I have no idea what to do if you don't, but if you do, you should get up early and drive around the whole time and look at things.

I've never been to San Jose, but I've bypassed it a few times by driving the California coast. Everyone I know from the midwest who gets to see even a bit of that coast thinks it's one of the best things they ever did. There is a lot to see and smell within a short driving distance. There are loads of places to pull over and see things or take a short walk to beach or interesting trees. And bring your binoculars so you can see some sea lions and other critters.

If I had never been to California, I'd be mighty tempted to go take a look at San Francisco though. That's something you have to see at some point in your life. You should take a few extra days, get a rental car, and do both San Francisco and a bit of the coast. :p

And if you don't have 7-11s where you live, you have to stop at one of those because we don't have them anymore.

well, the trip is per the basketball tournament, so i'm only there until we finish. meaning, if we lose on thursday, then i go home pretty much right away

i really don't have a whole lot of money (like, not even enough to pay my rent right now) so i can't afford to go anywhere else. i don't really know any of the trip details yet, but chances are we are staying at a fairly decent hotel relatively near the sharks arena.

i guess food suggestions would be the best, since i know that is one thing i will be doing with my slim funds

What kind of food do you like?

If you're staying downtown, you'll probably want to eat somewhere else. :D

No, but seriously. If you want cheap carbs at odd hours, you want to hit La Vics (http://www.lavicsj.com/) on Santa Clara (probably just a few blocks from your downtown hotel). It's just average taqueria food, but they've got this orange sauce that's good.

You might want to get a day pass for the light rail and buses so you can get out of downtown and do stuff. But there's a good movie theater right downtown called Camera 12 (http://www.cameracinemas.com/index.shtml) which is really nice. There's also a comedy club, plenty of bars, a few clubs, etc.

Lots of cops patrol the downtown, especially the clubs at night, so don't plan on cutting too too too loose.

As long as you're downtown, check out the newish city hall (http://www.sanjoseca.gov/newcityhall/). It's a really nice piece of furniture, and there's usually a historic exhibit of some sort. Last time I was there, they had the very first Apple computer on display, which is oddly amusing.

A few blocks north is Japantown, which is recommended if you want sushi or top shelf Ramen.

Metro Weekly (http://www.metroactive.com/metro/): a tiny taste.

You have my school to thank for your trip. VCU did all that work and blew it in the last 30 seconds of regulation. In the words of a great man---Doh!

I think you can speak badly about south San José; that's cool.

How long ago? I know it's gone through huge changes, especially downtown.

I live downtown. (y)

When I was born up till I was 6.

I wish I could remember the name of the apartments all my extended family lived in. Foxdale, I think. Haha. GHETTOOOOOO

South of Santa Clara? Some stuff is still kind of sketchy; I don't go too far south of San Fernando.

But I know they've cleaned downtown up big time. Our secretary has told me horror stories about downtown from when her brother lived there.

foxdale apartments (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=foxdale+apartments+san+jose&btnG=Google+Search)

and yeah? that's cool. Obviously I was 6 so I didn't really know the difference at the time. But our apartment complex had nice people in it. My parents took me past the area maybe about a year ago. It looked nice (y)

It's a bit of a drive -- maybe half an hour, an hour to Santa Cruz, depending on traffic.

well, the guy at the hotel gave me a train schedule to get to the beach, but didnt tell us that the station right around the corner wasnt the right one. so then i ran back in later to check and the other guy told us the wrong way to get there. so we ended up not going since we would have only had like an hour before we would have had to catch the last train back

other that that, and losing the game, it was a good trip i'd say (y)
