today at work, this girl came in with her dog and a rolled up poster and started walking back to the work area and my coworker said "we're gonna go up to the front table here", ushering her to the design table and the girl said, "you know what, nevermind, I'm just going to leave!" and left in a huff slamming the door.

I don't understand how that could have been so offensive. people always seem to get offended somehow when we try to tell them where to go. THERE'S A GIANT EMPTY TABLE IN THE FRONT! I mean, that thing is like 5'x10'. and people are always trying to put their stuff on top of the work area where a million things are going on. I don't get it.

solve the riddle.

Maybe she was on the rag.

I was thinking she maybe has father issues. :/

one time this designer guy totally threw a hissy fit and told me and my coworker that he was better than us and smarter than us, and wanted to get my coworker fired because she said, "it's easier if you bring your artwork in" when he was in the store for like an hour trying to pick out frames without the artwork. he just wanted to "stop in quick before the gym". quick...meaning...an hour? dork.

he was acting like he was all important, "I design million dollar homes!" but I googled him and found NOTHING. he has a unique name too. nothing, not even a business site.

I think he was on crystal meth.

"we're gonna go up to the front table here"
This is kinda condescending if he was talking 'bout her and the dog...
Better no clerk-fucker start with the "we" shit when he's only talking about me...

i don't get why the person left in a huff, either.

however, if that keeps happening, maybe the better way to phrase it is "you know, there's a table up front that is much larger and the entire workspace on it is available. would you like to use that table instead?"

well, it was a girl who said it and they were both going to go to the table, as my coworker also needed to walk to it.

also we're not clerks, we're designers and skilled laborers.

ah, but maybe it was the "we". I don't really care for that much, maybe she has a strong aversion to it. I usually say, "I'm gonna have you come up here where there's more space." and point to the enormous empty table. if people are nice, they're usually like, "oh, duh, that makes sense". and I'm like (y)

and beth, even stuff like that makes people mad. not everyone mind you, but some people get a little upset. maybe we should paint a line in front of the work area and write, "employees only beyond this point". and make a giant arrow hanging from the ceiling that says "DESIGN TABLE".

nastee! that penis was expensive!

I wonder if people see the work area and subconsciously think that that's the area where stuff gets attention and work gets done, and gesturing to another table, no matter how spacious, makes them feel like their stuff is getting put off in some way. Kind of like when I was the assistant and would have to block access to the boss sometimes...?

But yeah, that's definitely overreacting.

er, on topic (sorry for going straight to the penis before - hey, story of my life eh?) - yes, the cow was blatantly over reacting. i suggest all of your customers should under go a thorough quality control procedure. perhaps involving you and a giant phallus.
