Sure morally the man's way more than a little creepy but he's easily one of the funniest writer/director's in the history of cinema...in my humble but firm opinion.....what's your fave?....and if you have never seen any of these I higly recommend them all....(y) :)

"Funniest," not necessarily "best"?

Love and Death. Hands down.

Yes,the best comedy....Love and Death has it's moments very subtle as opposed to slapstick styles.....

Yup. But it's got great slapstick, too. The scene where they take turns bonking each other with the bottle is bust-a-gut funny.

Brilliant, brilliant movie. Sleeper is awfully good, too, but of his "early, funny" ones pre-Annie Hall, Love and Death has got it all. (y)

I watched him get interviewed on the dick cavett show on the weekend and shat my pants laughing

does he have any albums out of his clarinet playing?

it also reminded me that I had my john and yoko dick cavett show interviews dvd stolen back in january :(
I cant go into electronics stores anymore cause then I look around and see dvds that I dont own anymore and it makes me furiously angry all over again.

I don't think so, unless there's a soundtrack to Wild Man Blues.

I've seen that DVD! Not your copy, but I've watched that. Kind of nifty. Lennon was so nervous the first show.

I alway's pass it over....love the subject matter/guest line up....anyone recommend it?

"Getting Even" is a fun, quick read as well....a little outdated, wish he'd write again.....

i chose Bullets over Broadway...

J Tilly and Chazz are hilarious, as is John Cusack and Dianne Weist...

its a dynamite ensemble, Tracy Ullman , Jim Broadbent, etc etc

I think Manhattan Murder Mystery is pretty funny.

other than that, I've only seen Annie Hall (which is also pretty funny), Everyone Says I Love You (yuck), Match Point (dumb), and part of What's Up Tiger Lily (don't remember it).

wow, I didn't realize that he makes a movie a year...geez. busy man.

It's not his funniest movie, but I think The Purple Rose of Cairo is probably the best thing he's ever done. Mia Farrow's only been as good one other time; Jeff Daniels is perfect; Danny Aiello's great; Dianne Weist is perfect. Great, great beautiful movie.

If you don't know the plot, don't read a description. Just watch the thing and enjoy the surprises. (y)

I love it, totally mad cap…. Palmeteri play’s it so strait…and Jennifer Tilly is amazing….Cusacks growing desperation/mania….fantastic…..there is a diatribe that Cusack does when he decides he wants his wife back, about the artist creating their own reality and therefore there own moral plane of conscience….describes his perspective of life amazingly….(y)

Zelig, Radio Days, Broadway Danny Rose...?

Well, Zelig of course.....Radio Days alway's struck me as soooooo Neil Simonish....You ever notice that he usues the same sound stage for NYC like roof top scenarios? (Bullets,Radio Days and Mighty Aphrodite)....?

Edit: shiiiit it is Neil Simon!....my instinct is better than I know......:p

I think the air of unreality works for Radio Days. It's kind of about mythmaking.

Zelig, Radio Days, Broadway Danny Rose...?

Zelig ("Documentary" about a man who can look and act like whoever he's around, and meets various famous people) is Forrest Gump 11 years ahead of it's time. Radio Days is OK. My favorite Woody Allen movie is Broadway Danny Rose. Woody plays a damn convincing neurotic mess and the Black and White cinematography is incredible. Super NYNY feel to it.

Plus Broadway Danny Rose is edited very tight. Not that funny but still his funniest. When he attempts funny it sort of hits and misses.

Sweet and Lowdown is great.

I don't know, I'm starting to LOL thinking about Zelig when he's being psychoanalyzed by some brilliant famous doctor, then he takes the doctors personality and turn the tables.

Zelig Quotes from IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086637/quotes)

Let's go to the dump and shoot some rats!.......yes,Zelig the human chamelon....I love the scene where they send him off into isolation and he makes great strides but then snaps....in the foreground his progress is being explained while in the background he begins to attack all the shrinks/visitors....rivaled only by "Bottle Rocket" in background beat down scene.....:)

I'm really young so I've never seen an Allen film but I've been meaning to see Zelig.

Is it worth getting new for around $8?

Oh, heck yeah. It's got a pretty high rate of re-watchability.

The special effects are absolutely seamless. They're really amazing.

But the movie's really short -- it's, like, 70 minutes I think. But very diggable.

Couple of things just occured to me: If Inside the Actors Studio had a "Most Wanted" list Woody would and should be #1.....likely follwed by Brad Pitt.....but he's so private I doubt it will ever happen......the second thing is that as a physical comedian/actor he was fantastic,i don't know that many recognize that about him.....

You know what's cool? Brad Pitt actually turned them down. He said he didn't feel like he had a good enough body of work yet.

Yeah,I read a great rant by someone on the irony of how he turned it down while Affleck jumped in the seat instead.....why Nick Nolte hasn't done it while Martin Lawrence has...well....that's a miscarriage of justice....or a terrible oversight....they should really snag Peter O'Toole while he retains his faculty's.....
