Im thinking about bidding on these (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZgetdown87QQhtZ-1) what exactly are the details on them? Are these the rarest versions of these LPs? Holler with some details, record peeps!

I don't know if those are the rarest ones, but I do know that colored vinyl is normally better/harder to find. (y)

Back when Grand Royal was still operating they did different presses of the vinyl. Grand Royal did its own independant small press, and Capital Records did a larger press. The Grand Royal presses are more rare.

If I remember correct, the green vinyl for Ill Communication is the Grand Royal press printed in canada. I'm not sure whether it was pressed in the U.S. for Grand Royal. It might be that they did the Grand Royal press in Canada and distributed it worldwide although likely that the green vinyl was only distributed in the Canada and in the UK. I say this because the green vinyl press has the extra sample that got cut from the U.S. version (i.e. the french lady answering maching sample) The Capital Records U.S. press is on black vinyl and has the sample cut out just like the U.S. CD version. One way to tell if its the green vinyl version when the records are still sealed is that the Grand Royal presses do not have the Capital Records symbol on the records, just a symbol for Grand Royal and Brooklyn Dust. The Capital press has all three symbols. The Green vinyl batches also have a small silver circle sticker in the top right hand corner on the back cover. The green vinyl for Ill Com is a little harder to come by on colored vinyl than Hello Nasty but not super rare.

Hello Nasty's orange/gold/yellowish vinyl press was printed by Grand Royal in the USA. I think the numbers were much larger this time due to the fact that you see it often. Also, people became hip Grand Royal putting out colored vinyl this time. The colored press was advertised by the Grand Royal store. As far as audio, the colored vinyl is the same as the black vinyl for the U.S. presses.

Back when Ill Communication came out the colored presses were not widely known, it was more of an insider thing. If you or your record store ordered directly from Grand Royal they'd get the independant press but if they ordered through bigger distributors they were likely to get the Capital Records press.

There is also the Grand Royal Press of the Root Down EP on blue vinyl. I'm not sure if any of the other singles had Grand Royal presses. The In Sound From Way Out also had a limited Grand Royal press on yellow vinyl. You had to write to Grand Royal to reserve a copy. After that it came out in wide release with a slightly different track listing and some of the songs had vocals removed. I have "Some Old Bullshit" on Grand Royal Press too but that didn't seem to get the colored vinyl treatment.

The basic idea is that the Grand Royal presses are more rare, often came in colored vinyl, and in some cases are slightly different than the Capital Press as far as the actual audio on the record.

Anybody have "Get it Together" or "Intergalactic" or "Check your Head" or any of the Check Your Head 12"s on Grand Royal press? All my Check Your Head era stuff was pressed by Capital Records (unless we're talking about the represses that Grand Royal did way later)

the ill communication cassette also has the french lady message
the get it together / sabotage 7" is green and the sure shot 7" was burgundy?
was that from capitol or grand royal?

I have the check your head reissue from 1998, I think grand royal did that one. It's not colored but does have the lyrics printed in the gatefold. Does anyone know if the lyrics were printed in the original vinyl copies? I think like the cd you had to send away for them.

I have an original copy of Check Your Head from 92 (U.S. print). I believe it does have the lyrics in the inner sleve (same as the Grand Royal repress). I'll double check when I get home. Its a Capital Records pressing.

One thing I noticed about Beastiemania's listings is that they label the Grand Royal pressings as "Label: Grand Royal/Capital Capital Records." I think that's inaccurate. The Grand Royal presses do not have any mention of Capital Records on the sleves (although I know Grand Royal is a subsidiary of Capital so I may be splitting hairs). The Capital presses do say "Grand Royal" on them.

I think it depends on where you live. In Canada the sample would be there but I think my U.S. version of the cassette is missing that sample.
