Free hard drive under warranty, but it didn't come with any of my 600-odd songs on it. Now I have to download everything all over again. And I'm open to suggestions. What's the first thing you'd pick up if you were in my position?

And THAT is why I choose CDs over MP3 downloading simply because there's no permanence if you're solely relying on a hard drive. There's at least a permanence with something tangible (your CDs don't crash like your hard drive).
Having said that, go download some Joy Division. I've been listening to lots of that lately.

Contrary to popular belief, Interpol is in fact better than Joy Division.
Anyway, I'd download Tyranny of Distance by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, just because. Great record.

thats gonna be so expensive being that Itunes charges like 99 cents a song and you will be downloading all the replacements legally ;) ;) ;)

Nah, far from it. I love Interpol lots, but Joy Division is where it's at. One listen to "Dead Souls" is more than sufficient proof.
I'm just thankful you don't think She Wants Revenge is better than JD...

Best album of the past year - hands down;
Burial (http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=25310)
I recommend you buy an extra hard drive with an external case and use it to back up your shit (y)

Maybe I just like Interpol because it's 'poppier' (likely), but when I want to listen to a good record, I don't say "Hmm, I'm gonna put on that Joy Division record", you know? I can appreciate it, but I don't really listen to it near as much as I do Interpol, or whatever.

Well....
I kid.

Let me know what you think of the Burial... It's dubstep done right.

My thoughts exactly. You cry over 600 lousy songs? Try over 8000. That's mine and that's still pretty weak.
Anyhoo, the way to prevent this is: 1) Just go out and buy the CD's of the things you actually like and then put the songs on your comp.
2) Buy an mp3 player and chuck all your stuff onto that. (extra harddisk = less risk of losing stuff). So
3) If your comp crashes you can still put the stuff from your mp3 player on your comp, and if even the mp3 thing crashes you have the original CD's to listen to...
So what I'm basically saying is:
Buy More CD's!!!
But if you're busy downloading anyway, I recommend you try some Kaizers Orchestra. 'Ompa til du dør' is their best album. Get it!

Ehh... it's not really my cup of tea. Didn't hold my attention for very long.
I can't afford CDs or extra hard drives or mp3 players, so I download everything. That includes movies and TV shows too, since I can't afford a TV. I'm a humble man with simple tastes.
