Woody Harrelson's father died in prison today. I knew he was in prison but I did not know he was in for murdering a federal judge.

I was doing some research on supermaxes a few weeks ago and found out Harrelson's dad was in one. I had no idea.

Supermaxes are freakin' insane man. Each cell is soundproof so they can't talk to any neighbors, they're in there 23 hours out of the day, and the last hour they're allowed into a concrete courtyard stadium located in the middle of the prison, that will allow them only to see the sky. There was a report a few years ago of someone living near a supermax having to leave the area because you could tell what hour each prisoner was let out into the courtyard - you'd hear the worst blood-curdling screams you could ever imagine. These people are driven insane slowly, end up batshit insane in a few years, smearing feces on the wall, all kinds of crazy shit. It's more cruel than just putting them out of their misery with the death penalty, that's fo' sho.
