In his new album "Shock Value" Timbaland has a track ft Dre, Missy Elliott, and Justin Timberlake called Bounce. Anyways it totally samples the effects from shake your rump.

I hate when people dont put links - snippet (http://www.djskrilla.com/bounce.mp3)

I wonder if the Beastie Boys are credited or if the BBoys sampled that as well? Its Pauls Boutique so its probably sampled...

It will probably end up being a gigantic hit.

There is no justice in this world.

Timbaland samples everyone - so, guess it's a honor for the Beastie's to be part of that long list.

ahahah..it took a sec to me to realize...anyway I'm sure that it wilòl be a great success....of course, no doubt about it! :D
But I'm so fed up with those modern rappers that do nothing but sample other's music...like P Diddy.. Did he ever created something with his "own hands"!? i still hate "I'll be missing you" and the other one... taken by "Public Enemy n.1",..... *pukes*

Not only have they sampled they've also appropriated style elements from a lot of obscure groups. Most of their instrumentals, and about half of Hello Nasty intentionally reference obscure records they love. I mean, if ever there was a sample to cop from the Beastie Boys, that's the one, right?

Almost every single sound on Paul's Boutique (except the Beastie's vocals, and much of Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun) is sampled. I'm talking: drums, bass, guitars, you name it, it's sampled. A good portion of the lyrics are references to somebody else’s' song, movie, or TV show, or are direct quotes from other rappers or musicians. I don't even think they did much drum programming on that album (like they did on LTI).

That Rose Royce sample is not owned by the Beastie Boys. Its from the Car Wash soundtrack. That movie was widely known, especially in hip hop circles, waaayyyy before 1989 when Paul's Boutique came out. The Dust Brothers took 4 songs off that soundtrack and made "Shake Your Rump" out of them. Why should the Beastie's get credit when somebody samples music that wasn't even created by the Beasties? Shit, it was the Dust Brothers who put that track together anyway. They did it before they were even down with the Beasties. The Beasties just heard it in a club and wanted to rap over it.

So, what you have here, is two different groups that sampled the same popular record that has been used lots of times by lots of other people. So what.

The Beastie's sampled "Funky Drummer" by James Brown too. And so have HUNDREDS of other rappers/DJs/producers. It doesn't mean there's a reason for Beastie's fans freak out and point fingers every time somebody uses a James Brown sample. I can see a James Brown fan getting pissed, but I digress. . .

It comes down to this, I don't know what it is with Beastie Boys fans, but they tend to get all self-righteous when they hear anybody else who samples the same shit the Beasties sampled or references a Beastie Boys line. It happens over, and over, and over again, and every time somebody ends up getting clowned because they ran their mouth without realizing Beasties were sampling or referencing somebody else in the first place. The shit is even more ridiculous because (historically) the Beasties sample and reference more than just about every other rap group out there. I just can't believe y'all haven't figured it out yet. Its the pot calling the kettle black every time. This is why you never hear the B-Boys themselves criticizing someone else for sampling. Why their fans haven't figured it out by now I don't know.

Anyway people, next time you hear a "Beasties" sample, get on the internet and track down the sample source before you go accusing somebody of biting or stealing.

By the way Skrilla, I know you said you thought it was probably sampled so this isn't necessarily directed at you (although if you ever want to step your game up as a DJ you definitely got to figure out this whole sampling thing). This goes out to all 3000 of the "fans" out there who have no clue that 75% of their favorite band's songs come from borrowing other musician's music.

Okay, rant over. I’ll stop being an asshole now.

Too far. I like how you use information, for instance from the anthoogy booklet, as if it's your own exclusive inside info - twat.

I can see where this thread is coming from, but it's really not a big deal.

I see, so I can't state fairly common knowledge now without posting footnotes? That's crazy talk. I'm not one of these guys claiming I ate lunch with the Beastie Boys yesterday and have some sort of inside link to their personal lives. You've got the wrong motherfucker. In fact, I think all these people obsessing about anything other than the music are twisted.

You know, if people payed more attention to where the music is comming from instead trying to buy that hat Adrock was wearing, or trying to figure out what Mike D's kids are doing this weekend, or even tracking down some rare Brazilian pressing of the Sure Shot single, we wouldn't have all this nonsense.

Its these same Beastie Boys nuts that always pop off on this shit. They act like using a sample is a crime but they don't get the irony of the fact that they love the Beastie Boys (who borrow from just about every source imaginable in their music.) Its hiphophipocracy maaannnnnggg.

Honestly, as somebody who's been into hip hop since the early 80s, its offensive when people try to attack one of its core elements (sampling). I know its not a purposeful thing, but its an ignorance thing. But . . ., if you let it slide, then the ignorance breeds itself. When somebody says ignorant shit, without having any support behind it, they should be ready to answer for it when someone calls them out. Period.

Was I blunt about it? Yes. Was I overly harsh? Certainly. Was I an asshole about it? I already admitted I was. I've been nice and polite about it in the past but hey, maybe the drama is a good thing. More people will read the thread.

That's what the fuck. Sorry I didn't attempt to butter y'all up so you could more easily swallow. :(

This is great!

Personally I started coming to the BBMB because I really enjoy their music and have a reasonable enough interest in their style and history etc. So, Basically for the music.

But then the banter between all the freaks that come on here can be pretty amusing so I hang around a bit - all lifestyles and all that.

I'm really interested in sampling culture and like a good healthy debate about music culture and shit.

Yo Sir Skratch - I got your back - I've got everyone else's too - fuck it - let's have a beef fest! I got loads of issues with all you total strangers. Adrock's my third cousin half removed (possibly), I've got a massive hip hop record collection and I once had a dog called Mike (not sure if he was more of a 'D' dog or a 'mixmastering' dog - I was only little.)

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anihilate! Beastiebots go! Hip Hop nerds attack! Girls that fancy one of the boys kill!

Kill kill kill!
