I was in one last night, and I really enjoyed myself. Just bouncing around and getting an occasional elbow in the side. But it's always the next morning that puts me off it (for a while). I'm all covered in bruises and my muscles hurt so bad. Moshing is like a proper work out.

Also I figured out there are good pits and bad pits. Bad ones are the ones with teenage boys trying to be cool and thinking mosh pits are about beating the crap out of eachother and put their fists out all the time.
The good ones are the ones where people are just wildly dancing and jumping into eachother (sans elbows) and having a good time.

What are you guys' (and gals') opinions/experiences?

And mosher dudes, what do you do when you see a girl in the pit?

I'm too old for all this mosh pit action these days. :D

I've never been slap bang in the middle of one, more on the sideline but even then i got a ton of bruises, my friend's t-shirt got a huge rip down the back of it and for some reason the a bloke in front of me lifted up his water bottle above his head and poured the entire bottle over my head. If he meant to cool himself down he had a shite aim.

And i'm pretty sure it was just water. :/

Mosh pits ruin concerts, and the people that partake in them are cunts.

Last time X was in town, I saw them at a small club. I was standing in the front of the balcony overhanging the little pit area. All these middle aged guys were moshing gently. It made me smile all night.

It pisses me off when people mosh to inappropriate music. Most of the bands I see don't make music for moshing.

They do at ska/punk concerts. Which is the kind of gigs I like to go to. :)

pretty much. if you want to mosh, go to a hardcore show and enjoy the sausage fest. angry dudes violently touching each other is not my idea of fun, it's all about the ladies.

It really depends on the music in which pit to go to. Even though there is always the occasional dickhead that only goes to swing his fists and elbows.

Like, I've moshed during Jane's Addiction, Beastie Boys, Primus, Clutch and a few other bands and the crowd was of course bumping into each other but nobody was trying to be an asshole and if you'd happen to fall, they'd swarm to pick you up.

If you go to see Metallica or Slayer or some death metal bands or even some hardcore punk bands, it's almost certain that 80% of the moshing crowd will consist of some dickheads that have to ruin it.

Ten more days then I'm gonna be up to my neck in moshing people. Gang Green concert, my first gig of them was the best evah! I only go to concerts 'bout two or three times a year and then hit the mosh pit hard. But I try to steer away from any moshing girls cause I don't think it's nice hitting them in the chest...
